Well, I'm officially awake for a while now........My baby, Annette woke up about 30 minutes ago in a cranky mood, so I got a bottle ready for her. As I turned from the microwave with the bottle to head down the hall, I nearly stepped on a foot long SNAKE in my HOUSE......Mind you I was holding Annette at the time.
I jumped about 10 feet......screamed, and my husband woke up immediately. Managed to catch the snake, and it slithered away to God knows where......If we'd had anything readily available to kill it, it'd be dead.
Now I have to try getting back to sleep knowing that a snake somehow managed to get inside......

Good thing, you did not let go of your baby otherwise you would have two things to worry about. I'm sure you're not the only one awakened and feeling shaken after the incident.
Since you are already awake, both of you should think about snake-proofing your house. Just to make sure you don't have a repeat of the incident. You also want to feel safe and secure in your own home. Only then can you have a good night's rest.

i'd like to know how you snake proof the house? i worry constantly since i've been in Florida, i've seen so many outside and wonder if they can get in. because i've noticed that some small lizards have gotten inside.

omg that's one of my biggest fears...snakes getting into the house. We lived in an over 100 year old house a few years ago and I looked out the window and saw a king snake. I tapped on the glass and the snake came towards the house. I freaked out and jumped on a chair just certain that it was going to find a way into the house. I grew up hearing stories about people in the area finding black snakes and such in their houses and snakes give me the willies anyway. I'm glad it didn't bite you and you and the baby are fine if not a little spooked.

Having a snake in your house is a very scary thing! When we were teenagers, we had a hall phone that was between bedrooms, outside our bathroom. My brother had been on the phone and just laid down in the hall and I was lying across my bed. Mother was gone. I heard my brother sort of call my name and say, "quit". I hollered at him and told him I was on the bed and wasn't doing anything. All of a sudden he screamed that there was a snake in the house and for me to take off running.Well, I had to run out my door around the corner into another room, through the hall. His leg caught my leg and I got a big gash out of that! Then, he tells me that he heard this hissing in his ear and, out of the corner of his eye, he saw this snake. He got up and ran! Our neighbor found it under my mother's dresser in her bedroom. It had gotten in through the back door. The door was open and the screen had a small area at the corner that didn't fit snug.
