why did i have to see the dog about to be run over?

I was traveling to work by train last week, when we aproached a level crossing ( railroad crossing ) while crossing the road, a greyhound dog ran towards the train and under my window. its so obvious what happened next, but has anyone else had to deal with this kind of thing? it was very disturbing

oh my gosh! I would have flipped out if I saw that!! That poor thing, I wonder what on Earth could have made that dog run at a moving train! :( I, thankfully, never had to witness something like that! And I'm sorry you did!
