Do you find it hard, some days, to focus on MyLot?

I have been stuck in the $9 range for three days now - can't even hit that $10 mark. I am having the hardest time finding discussions that catch my eye or pertain to a subject I have an opinion about. I can't even think of things to start a discussion about (Mooch, I envy you in that!) Of course, I slept almost the entire day yesterday plus all night, so I didn't put a lot of time into it, but even now, after a full day of sleeping (I have a discussion about what happened to cause that), I'm not able to think of anything to say at any great length. I just hate leaving short answers - not that I like being wordy, although I am. It's that I don't like leaving the impression that the only reason I responded was to get credit for a response. I want to respond because I really have something to say - does that make sense? Have any of you had this problem - where you wanted to work on MyLot but couldn't think of anything to say to most everything you saw? Were you able to overcome it or did it resolve itself after a day or so? Is it just a kind of "writer's block"?

this is one of the main reasons that i gave up mylot for quite a while..it's more than an year i think. with the mylot community getting bigger and bigger, new people had no idea what this site is all about,so they were just posting a huge number of discussions with meaningless subjects, the most common was hello everybody how are you?..or..i am new here, just wanna say hello, or what did you eat today?..and that would not be the worst thing, but the discussions were simply like that: 'how are you?'... and that's all, they didn't even try to write somethingelse. and secondly, one word answers started to appear more often, or even copy-pasted one. people kept adding me as friends but they never participated in my discussions,or even theirs.. it all became frustrating so i backed off. now i just open it to see what's new,i used to spend hours here, and kept posting and posting..i must say the earnings are not great also..i mean,ok, we don't do it especially for the money and if you find interesting discussions you really like to reply but... all gathered made it not be so pleasant anymore. and i also don't have as much spare time as before,i guess that is a reason too. but to answer to your question, yes,it has happened to me many times, and i really tried hard to find interesting discussions, and also happened to find one but can't find my words to give a proper answer so i gave up. it's a normal thing to happen,i guess:)

I've seen a few of those "Hi, I'm new here" discussions and I do answer them - they introduce themselves and tell a little about themselves and I don't mind that at all. But, I did have one who added me as a friend and I started seeing him on everyone's list as a friend - so one day, I decided to check out his profile. He had added me with 4 discussions and when I checked him, he still only had 4 discussions, but over 12,000 friends!!! All he was doing was collecting friends, so I deleted him. Not that he was a bad person, but I wasn't in the mood to be "collected". There are the pleasant and the not-so-pleasant (I can name two) and the "I'll get credit for this"-ers and the book writers (you know who you are). It does seem that MyLot fairly well represents the real world, in that sense. There's also the political extremists (in both directions), the religious extremists (from Bible thumpers to pagans), the egalitarians and the separatists, the racial dividers and the unifiers. If I'm in a confrontational mood, I'll take on a discussion with one of the extremists in one of those categories. It can be a good exercise in technique and makes me check my facts before posing a challenge in return. I've learned a few things from them, even if the things I've learned aren't what I expected.

I do as well, but I tend to stay on a while and haven't been able to think of anything or find anything that "calls" to me. Like my "thinker" is jammed or something.

yes, this is happening sometimes here and with my other "friends" site. but it usually straightens out if i turn off the darn tv and concentrate! LOL! i do like talking/writing, but not a good typer. so, as a result i dont get as much "contributed" as i'd like. also, if i do get started its like there is so much to choose from here that interests me. then the night/day whatever, just flies by and i've got nothing else done. hhhmmm.

I was like this overnight on Fri/Sat., jerzgirl. I was typing away at discussions in my inbox. When I got caught up, I was then hunting for more to respond to. I went thru 10 pages and only found one that interested me. Talk about bored out of my mind.. I had nothing to say to warrant starting my own discussion either.

That's kind of where I'm at...like I'm bored, even though I like doing this more than almost anything else! I think I just need a break or something. I rarely watch television. Maybe I need to for a day or so - give my brain a different way of working.

I've been out of the mood to mylot lately, don't know why. I've spent the last 3 days in the 7 dollar range. I did make about 50 cents yesterday, that's the most I've made in over a week. I've been in the mood to play games, bad I know....

I haven't even wanted to play games - I used to pop over to Mah Johng for a mental break, but even that is boring. Not that this is boring, but it's kind of like that. I'm not a physical doer, but a mental doer - I like word puzzles and logic problems, etc. And, I'm not even willing to think to do them! Maybe my brain just needs a vacation for a bit. Who knows.

I understand what you mean about writer's block. I am a member of a writing site where I have written about 10 articles. I think the last one I wrote was in September of last year. Since then, I have started writing about other topics there and either can't think of anything or write a little bit and then get stuck. I like myLot because I don't have to think too hard about what I'm writing. Here, I don't have to write a minimum amount of words. Just a few lines will do me fine. Also, I like that I am responding to what others have written. I don't like responding to discussions that have been started with only a question (but I have to only a few) or the writers will ask How about you? The majority of the time, these writers don't even write their own opinion of what they ask about!! For the last few days, I've been kind of wandering around here trying to think of what I could start a discussion about. Most of the discussions already here are pretty much re-runs. So I keep checking back to see if something will catch my eye. I'm sure I will start a discussion and respond to about ten of them, also.

True, there are a lot of reruns, but with new people coming on board all the time, they're new to them. I have never been fond of the "word minimum" requirements for anything (school papers, reviews, etc.), so I haven't pursued any sites that have them. I do enjoy being here, but maybe I am experiencing a bit of myLot burnout from doing it so often. I don't know. But, I'll be OK, I'm sure. Just a lull in the brainwaves, I'm sure.

Hi jerzgirl, I share your troubles this week. But I have been stuck on $7 all week. I'm starting to wonder if I'll even see $10. this month. I feel like I just don't have anything to contribute to most of the discussions I see, as it is already there or the discussion didn't appeal to me as much as the title of it did. I do hope I hit the minimum by the end of the month though. It feels impossible at this rate.

I try to not set specific goals except to make minimum payout, which for me is $10. If I can do $.50/day, I can hit $15, but even that's been tough this week! But, really, I'm not in this for the money - well, not entirely for the money. Yes, I want to make payout monthly - I can use that little bit of $$ right now. But, I also like being here and reading what people are saying, getting feisty when it's called for, laughing when something is funny, just having fun in general. But, I do know what you mean - sometimes it just seems like being stuck in the mud and using all your energy and getting nowhere. Weird - I used to notice that at work some days - work work work, accomplish little. Other days, seemed like hardly any work and a whole bunch of stuff got done. Twilight zone-ish.

Losing money - I'm trying to be on my best behavior; about 3 or 5 days ago, myLot (or someone) took offense to some discussions I started, shut them down and began to take away earnings! The first time I ever noticed my earnings going backwards before and it was NOT fun! So now I'm being a good girl (no controversy here!) and just responding to others' discussions. Oh well, so much for free speech!
I hit $10+ a few days ago, but then three of my discussions were deleted and my earnings reduced the last couple of days, so I went back to $9. It's finally over the $10 mark and I'm just here biding time to keep adding to my earnings. I don't think I'll be starting any new discussions for some time (at least my star rating stayed intact!)

Subtalk--a failed social experiment? - This will probably get me booted from myLot, even talking about my discussions. It's frustrating to realize that I must have been onto something close (about earnings) and in a way, I WAS improving myLot by having members respond with quality posts! Oh well, I just like the quirkiness of this particular image, so I decided to chose this one!
Let's just say it was my 'social experiment' and let it go at that. I'm not sure if it was reported (I didn't receive any notification from myLot yet) or what, but it was encouraging to see that 90%+ of respondents were posting good, quality comments, instead of the one-lines that have been getting so popular again...oh well. I must have been on to something, for it to get knocked out like that.... but at least the picture is quirky!

Well, it does leave a lot to the imagination - and the way mine works, all SORTS of discussions could come out of it!! LOL I've seen people complaining about some topics, but I figure unless they're intended to be hurtful and insulting, any topic should be fair game if it's for honest opinion and understanding. But, since I didn't see them, I have no idea what I'd think about them. But, maybe next time - probably someone did complain. But, you'll make up for it, I'm sure!

How weird. Do you know which ones? Did they have links in them? So far, I've been lucky, I guess. Even the one discussion I responded to that got deleted didn't seem to affect my totals. Of course, he deserved it preaching white supremacy and insulting any and all who didn't agree. I'd have gladly dropped pennies for that! ('Cause I couldn't keep my fingers quiet - had to give him whatfor, even as I reported him! LOL)

I have days like that too. Sometimes I think maybe cause I'm just plain not in the mood to really go full swing at MyLot like I usually do, or it could be after a long day, scanning photos, retouching them, writing an article, so by the time I get here I just plain too tired..LOL. I usually make up for it the next day though...So far I'm all caught up with all my current discussions I've started and made replies to...So right now, just hunting around for discussions to reply to..like yours

Yeah - I'm wondering if that's me - just plain not in the mood. That could be it. It happens in other areas as well - I fall into a "I really don't care" kind of thinking and can't get anything done I know I should get done. Hopefully, it's just a "slump" that I will come out of.

Yes, there are times when I find it hard to focus on myLot. For the past few days, I have not really started any discussions because I can't think of any good topic to work on. Well, I just did today. Anyway, I do have issues about some discussions posted here too. Like there are so many discussions started by other people but it seems like I do not really have that much to say to most of those discussions.

I've seen several topics the same started by different people, too. I think they start them but haven't seen that someone else also started them. Sometimes they're in different interest categories, too. You might think it's a good topic and not realize that someone else thought the same thing only a few hours or days earlier. And, it IS a good topic, but you might not get the answers on yours that they got - either because it is a duplicate or because it's a different interest category that doesn't get as much traffic.

There are many days when I am so tired from the days work and I also think it depends on whether or not you have other things on your mind too that are distracting you from having a good time here with all the things that you can write about. I think I write best when I am relaxed and do not have so much worries and stress on my mind. I enjoy being able to write freely without distractions too. Sometimes if my partner is home, well that can be a bit of a situation that prevents me sometimes from even coming online. I mean he just does not allow me to think clearly because he constantly talks to me and distracts me in other ways too. I think maybe he wants to be online too or feels like I am talking to someone on here, I know what it is, perhaps a jealously factor I don't know about.

Having that kind of distraction would make it hard to think, I'm sure. I stay with my mother and have to keep an ear open for her, so I'm not always totally focused anyway - but I've been here for months and that hasn't stopped me from doing this. I just think my brain needed a break or something. I think I'm OK now, but don't know. Have so much to do and so many different places to go, it's hard stopping one to start another.

I know what you mean when you say you don't want to add short answers and sometimes it is difficult to find enough discussions where you can give a good response. I look through my friends discussions and if there are not many new ones to interest me I usually have a look in top discussions and hot topics. If I find nothing there I will look under some of my interests. I can usually find some nice discussions to respond to. If not I will do something else and return to myLot later, when some more discussions will have appeared.

I do pretty much the same thing - I check my friend's discussions, then the top, hot, no responses, new and recent. Then start over again. I'll hit my favorites to see what's new in them and then back again. Sometimes something has been added, sometimes it hasn't, that will catch my interest. This is just my longest dry spell.

Yes. Though I'm still fairly new to this site, I am beginning to find it difficult to focus on it and offer anything worth reading. My head is empty at the moment re: starting up new topics for discussion, and I can only respond to anything that really catches my eye (like your post has just done lol). I find I'm tending not to (apart from here) respond to discussions that have more than about 8 responses, as I feel that I maybe have nothing original to add to the thread which hasn't already been said. Maybe it's a bit of writer's block? Not sure yet lol.

Geez, that must be awful? You have over 500 posts and it's hard to believe that you haven't hit hight than the $10 mark. I've just hit 100 posts and I already have a little over two dollars. In that week time, three days I did almost no posting at all. I predict that I will have over $10 once I hit 500 posts. However, I do find it terribly hard at times to come up with a new discussion or come up with responses and comments. You make prefect sense. I think that we should take short breaks from mylot to clear our minds and have some peace.

Oh, well that's good. I've noticed that I have to post a whole lot each day to make at least $1 at day, which is my goal. I'm not working during the summer so it's pretty easy so far. But, when school starts again for kids, and I start to substitute I think it would be harder for me. I will keep up my posting so that I don't get stuck at $9 also. It's always good to hear that members have made payout numerous times. You have a good 4 to 5 days, so I'm just you will make a little over payout. Good luck!

This happens sometimes to me. I like to find discussions I am interested in and want to leave a good response, not just a few lines. I sometimes spend more time looking around than I do posting but that is okay somedays. I try to find discussions to respond to and if I don't I have learned to just come back later or the next day when I can find a discussion I feel like responding to or have a few ideas for starting a discussion. I usually think of what I can start a discussion about when I am driving so lately I have been writing it down for later.

I have found that the last three days I have had no interest to be on MyLot or the computer for that matter. I was trying to get motivated to do anything but with little success. I mostly lounged around and did a little cleaning that's it. The end of the month is comeing and now that I only have a matter of days to reach my goal I need to put a move on it and get there. I believe I can do this and shall put this into turbo nitrious style and go. I am not the type to get this way but I was for the past three days and it bugged me. I am back in the full swing of things again and I will win in the end.

Hi I may some times to feel it is hard to do any thing not only myLotting. But in other days I can interestingly participate in discussions. usually I will read all the responses for those discussion which I feel interesting. On such time when I may not feel to participate in discussions,I don't do any thing to overcome that. It may pass and resolve by itself and the next day I will be able to do things in a much better way.

I don't think that you can have a writer's block here on myLot because your performance is somehow dependent on how actively others are participating. Lately, I haven't been able to come up with new discussions, so I just try answering what other people write. If you've been stuck in the $9 range for a while now, I'm sure you'll be able to break through to $10 pretty soon! Just keep your head up friend! You're almost near payout, that should try to motivate you. :)

I think up to a point, you're right. Responses are dependent on those who start the discussions - but I also think other factors play into it and can prevent you from giving a really good response because you're just not able to think and put it together in your head.

Yes - I made the $10 mark - funny, because it's apparently because of this discussion as it's almost the only thing I worked on yesterday. But, now, if I can get motivated, I'll try to add to that before the month is over.
