How long did it take you to get used to contact lenses?

On Saturday i went for my first ever contact lense consultation & fitting. The lady put them in for 10 mins fist of all, and it was a really weird sensation. The perscription has been changed though so i don't think that helped! I then had to see another lady to teach me how to put them in and take them out. I found it really hard to get the lense out even though the lady showed me, though fairly easy to put them in. Once they were ina second time my left eye felt a bit uncomfortable, and then later even after i look the lenses out my left eye was still feeling quite sore & irritated. Today my left eye doesn't hurt one bit though and when i put my contact lenses in i found i could barely feel that they were in. I think i'm starting to get used to them, or at least to wearing them, but i don't know if i'll ever get use to taking them out again! How long did it take or, or did you never get used to it?

I first started wearing contact lenses about 20 yrs ago and haven't had a single bit of discomfort since the moment I first put them in.
If you are feeling pain even after taking the lens out, something is not right and you need to talk with your eye care professional about it.
If your lenses fit properly, you shouldn't be having any problems. Make sure your dr knows so that he can check the measurement/curvature of your eye again.
What type of lenses are they? Some brands are thicker than others, and the one time I tried a different brand, they did feel a little odd, but still not painful. I opted to go back to my regular brand.
Some brands have more water content than others too. My dr told me that it was a negligible amount and wouldn't matter, but I did notice a difference when he gave me a pair to try, and again, I opted to go back to the type I wore previously.
I wear AcuView and love them. They're very thin and flexible.

For me, it was perfect the first time, I didnt get any of the irritation that they said would accompany the wearing of contact lenses. Maybe it was due in part to my excitement, and waiting for so long to have them, I was still in college when I got my first pair, and it took me 4 months to convince my parents to buy them for me. So maybe it was because of that. The only drawback there was, I had to cut my nails short, in fear of scratching my own eyes when taking the lenses off. Im still wearing contact lenses up to now, actually, I find taking them off easier than putting them in. You'll get use to it after about a week at most.

I tried wearing contact lenses about 6 months ago and it was nice at first because I feel much more free around the eyes and i could see more clearly. When I first tried using it, it took me about 3 days to actually get used to putting the little things inside my eyes as my fingers are really fat and the things are so small.
Feeling uncomfortable is normal as dust could easily be trapped inside the lenses and it is impossible to get rid of it 100%. The way to do it is by dropping the multi-purpose solution inside your eyes. I am sure you'll get used to it. Some of my friends found it frightening to take them out like you are now but after a while they get used to it. You cannot let them stay in your eyes because your eyes need oxygen. Practice makes perfect. Good Luck
