I'm thinking of going to one of the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academies and taking a crap load of classes that would end up being somewhere around $70,000 (including books & supplies). I'm a long ways from being able to afford that but I want to exercise my options and plan in advance for it. I want to come out of it an executive pastry chef w/kitchen management experience. Has anyone been to culiary school? Was it that expensive? Did you love it? Hate it?

I considered it about ten years ago.
Now I remember why I changed my mind! LOL!
I wasn't a good cook at the time.
Now I can turn even the most basic ingredients
into a gourmet tasting meal.
And using nothing but the microwave and George Foreman grill.
Honestly, I can do it!
Course that's just a mom skill!
You might qualify for loans or grants, so check into your options.
You might even own your own restaurant some day.
If that's what you wanted.
Best of luck with your chosen career path.
If it's meant to be, something wonderful will open up for you!
Be well.

Thanks!
LOL you know it's funny that you say that it's a mom skill, cooking, because I remember when I was little that my mom was like the best cook. As I grew up I learned to beat her to the stove and make something tasty so that I wouldn't have to eat her "creations". Mom can bake like a pro but the stove top is so not her friend, lol.
I love gourmet cooking and baking, it's so fun to invent your own way to make things and have them turn out so yummy. I do hope to work in a casino as a pastry chef because it's there that you see the most creative desserts and it pays about $50,000 more than being a pastry chef at a restaurant and it's very fast paced so you learn to work quick and on your feet. Then I want to own my own dessert restaurant. Kind of part bakery part dessert only restaurant part 40's style cocktail lounge. Fun! That's been my dream for years.

No never been one. But I remember I have those cooking classes when I was in school. I loved everything about it except buying the ingredients. Somehow I found buying ingredients were troublesome *laughs*.
