I'm a Chinese and I'm just wondering how much does a US citizen earn every month or each week.
I don't want to probe into your privacy, just the average is OK.
Thanks in advance!

Well I read the other responses and comments before responding. You have one wife, and two children. How much you need to earn really depends a lot of what kind of area you want to live in. I live in Ohio and its much cheaper to live here than it is in California. In Ohio, to live comfortably and have your wife stay at home with your children, you need to make at least 40-45,000 per year. Anything less than that and you will not be able to live in a nice neighborhood, have your children in a good school system, etc... Now that gas prices are so high, everything else in america is going up too, so even at 40k a year you would more than likely struggle. Here in Ohio renting a home or apartment in Columbus (the capital of Ohio) is usually at least $625 per month, and that's for a small two bedroom, two bath apartment in a good public school district. Then it'll probably cost lets say $500/mo. for food. Then gas to and from work can be ridiculous if you don't live close to work. I don't know what kind of training or skills you have but if it's none you are really not going to make enough without your wife working too. Do you mind me asking what kind of work you do in your home country?

Hi luvinu617, nice to talk with you.
You are so kind.
I'm very glad to tell you something about me and my family.
In China, I'm a software engineer and have a master degree in automation.I'm working in a small company from the US, but I'm not sure whether i can find a ideal job if I go to the US. the reason is that I'm not an expert.
and now ,i have a wife but no children. two children is my goal in my life. and i really don't want to her to work. so will it be a little difficult for me to earn enough money?

Being a software engineer and having a master's degree you should do ok but I am not sure. My advice to you is check out some american salary sites like payscale.com or salary.com. Also check out some american job sites such as careerbuilder.com or monster.com or yahoojobs.com and try to find jobs that match your current job/degree. For a software engineer here in the states, the average salary is anywhere from 40k/yr to 65k/yr. So you would be able to do alright, and starting out at 40k by time you had two children you should be making enough to support the family. But, I would still research those site I told you about instead of taking my word for it, since you know more about your experience level and your career field. Good luck!
