Hey all. I just had a lovely appendectomy four days ago. I was lucky cuz I caught it way before it ruptured and didn't need emergency surgery. Now I've been home three days and recovering nicely. My stomach hurts a bit but not that bad. Just a word of advice though. If you get stomach pain that you can't explain and it lasts several hours without going away and pills or heating pad don't help, especially if you don't get stomach pain regularly and if it hurts more when you move around, it might be appendicitis. That's not to say that it is but only 19% of people catch it in time to have the type of surgery that I did, which has a shorter recovery time and the scars aren't as obvious because they are just three tiny incisions as opposed to one huge one, so I just wanted to share what the feeling was like. Maybe if you get it you can make the minority like I did. The pain was hard to describe but it was a kind of soreness that, as I said, hurt more when I moved around because the doctor said the appendix was actually moving around so changing positions was actually irritating it more. If you've had appendicitis before, share your experiences. If not, I hope this post helps you be prepared for the possibility as lots and lots of people have to have their appendix removed for that very reason. I know it's not the most pleasant of discussions, but it's what's going on with me lately. I am feeling much better after only four days and should be mostly recovered in about two weeks.

Its good that you survived easily and had a very easy surgery and recovery. Its even better that you are sharing your experience so others will benefit. Wish you a complete recovery and keep us updated.

I'll be sure to do that. My fiance said that he'd go swimming with me as soon as the doctor said I am clear to go so I'll make a post that day! That'll pretty much mean I'm fully recovered.

While my appendix had not yet burst, it was an emergency surgery on Christmas Eve in 1999. I was in 7th grade and I still have the scar (i'm 23 now) I was in the hospital recovering for two weeks. The thing that made me wonder the most was that they kept asking me if I was passing gas, and I wasn't. This was bad because when they cut you open it lets air inside that shouldn't be there, and you're supposed to pass it sa flatulence. I never really had bad flatulence and they were worried that the air could hurt me (and it did) I started having bad stomach pains, and so I had to take medication and it fixed somehow. I also remember my stitches bleeding through everything and all over my bed. So when the doctor saw it, apparantly I was moving around too much in my sleep and ripped some stitches. So one piece of my scar is slightly wider then the rest because of that.

Ah, I was lucky as I didn't move around excessively but like you I wasn't passing gas while at the hospital. They didn't say much about that though but as soon as I got home, I started farting frequently and still am so I take that as a good thing. I really hope we can help people who haven't experienced it be prepared and understand the seriousness because like the previous person said, it might be minor surgery but it can still be life threatening and if you think you have it you should have it looked at. I'm glad mine is out and although I'm still recovering, I don't feel all taht bad. I appreciate the response.
