Do you read to your children?

If so how often and when? If not, why not? Do you keep reading and reading or do you stop when they beg you to "read it again" or "read another one"? I try to read to my children every day. Hannah is one and getting her legs under her, so she has no desire to sit and read, but sometimes I can point out pictures and the like for a few minutes. My son, he loves to be read to and will bug me daily to read and do it for hours at a time. I can't devote that kind of time to it, but we do read a lot.

I used to read lots to my sons and they still quote bits from favourite stories now although they are both in their 20s. When I worked in schools, I loved to read to the children - especially when I got to choose the book. Sometimes children would choose books which were so boring to read!

Hi There, My daughters are getting older now, but I still try to read to them everyday. It does not quite work out the wya it used to, but I at least get to read to them before bed everyday. We read chapter books and I read a chapter every night. I know they like it because they always ask me if I am coming soon to read to them. cheers,

When the kids were little Lori made a point to read to them every day. She is a much better reader then I am. But I would often read to them. This taught them to love bools and to love reading and we are all book worms now.

I don't have to do it very often as I am bachelor now . But I do it some times , when I go back to my home and my all cousins gather around me at night time before going to sleep . I belong from a joint family and my father has another three brother and two sister . So I have 12 cousins younger than me and I do so many fun with reading with them .. Thanks !!!

I read to my 1 year old everyday. She (like yours) isn't always interested. Sometimes I just name pictures in the book, or count something in the book. If she doesn't want to look anymore I let her down and play. Reading should be a pleasant fun experience. I hope one day she is begging me to read more, and I will. As a former teacher I can tell you reading to your children is so important. You are doing a wonderful service to them, they may not ever realize how much regular exposure to books, print, pictures, etc. effects their intelligence and overall love of learning, but it will!

I don't read to them often. What I do is to tell them the story from the pictures. I find it hard to read long sentences and then translate it to our kids. Then we have the question and answer portion.

My child always asks me to read for him. He is four years old. He likes some books lately and he enjoys to listen it again and again. In fact I am already tired of reading these books for him, but anyway he likes it:) I love China

My daughter and I take the grandkids and my youngest to the library every week for little fun activities and to get books so we can read them to them. We also took them to the park this week and had a reading picnic. The kids loved it.We took 1 book of each childs and read them and then we ate.

I really wish I could do that with my kids. But I am working very very far from them thats why I don't have the chance now. I remember when I was still in our country I also read some books with them but not always. I also observed it with my wife, perhaps its because when we arrive home from work we are already very tired and most of the times the kids are already sleeping.

My daughter loves books. She "reads" alot. I try to make a habit of reading to her everynight. It's hard to always make time because she has a 4 month old sister. But I feel its very important.

Hi Tannie, I admire your children of love of reading. I hope my baby will be like them too! I have a 10 month old baby girl I used to read her books everyday actually every night, and i noticed she likes it, she's starting pointing out on pictures and turning pages on her own. I would be happy reading it over and over. Thanks and good day!

My girls are 4 and 2 and when my oldest was 2 she didn't want to sit for a minute so it was really hard to read to her until she got older. But my younger daughter LOVES to be read to, I'm talking she will sit for hours and jsut bring me book after book! I have finally gotten to the point where I have to turn her away otherwise I don't get any hosework done!

My mom read to my sister and me every night for years. Any reading time you can get in with your children is invaluable. They will remember and love it forever.

I try to read to my son as often as I can. He's ten months, so whenever he settles down and starts spacing out, I try to read to him to help him fall asleep. Though, sometimes it doesn't always work. He has so much energy, it's not possible to read as often as I would like. I try to pick short stories to read to him, and ones with pictures so he can point. = )
