If oil prices are high and pollution is bad, why don't people slow down?

I hear (and read) everyone complaining about high gas prices and talking about "going green" but I still see most people speeding down the road. Are most people unaware that you get better gas mileage at lower speeds? If you drive over 60 mph your gas mileage drops off. Also the faster you drive the more hard stops and fast starts you are likely to make, which reduces gas mileage.
If everyone is so worried, why isn't everyone driving a little slower?

I think it is probably habit with most people. I seldom go over 55m.p.h. and it doesn't really matter how high the speed limit is. My family always makes fun of me but i can get a lot more gas mileage out of my car than any of them can!
