Repelling bees?

I bought my 2 year old daughter a small plastic pool to keep her cool during the day. Well, I won't let her play in it because there are so many yellow jackets constantly in it. Is there something that I can put in the water to repel them? Or something I can put next to the pool?? The only thing I can think of is a yellow jacket trap, but if there's something that would work that I'd have around the house that would be great. I've looked around online and can't seem to find anything, but thought I'd ask anyways.
