I have recently been able to rediscover my passion for reading, I have just in the last couple of weeks joined my children and I into the local library and we have been going once a week. It has been a few years since I was able to get any decent amount of time to read and so obviously there have been lots of books I have missed out on.
So I am like a kid with a new toy at the minute! I am currently reading two books, one I read downstairs when I get chance, and the other I read to my daughter and in the bath when I get chance. Now I have overall favourite authors, lots of them in fact, but my favourite authors of the moment are Martina Cole and Phillipa Greggory. Martina Cole writes gangster style fiction books, quite violent and shocking but very good, my downstairs book is called Faces. My upstairs book is called "the other Boleyn girl" by Phillipa Greggory and is absolutely fantastic, the way she writes is amazing, the words just flow and I have never read a book like it. I am going to the library tomorrow to try and find more from her as if they are all written like this one then I am in for a great read for a few weeks to come!
So who is your favourite author of the moment? What is the last book you read that made a real impact on you?
Has anyone else read "the other Boleyn girl"? If so what did you think of it?

I think I've read something by Phillipa Gregory and I've heard of Martina Cole but not read anything of hers. I'm currently reading Two For The Road by Janet Evanovitch. It's the second book in a series. It's very funny and has some great, colourful characters. The main character is Stephanie Plum who works for a bondsman...she's a modern day bounty hunter. I'd recommend this author to a men and women who enjoy stories about goodies and baddies, action and comedy. It's a wonderful light read.

I can't say that I have one favourite author. If you check my profile you'll see I have listed many. I tend to stick to that same group of authors, which is a bad thing. When I step outside the box and read someone new I am pleased and find myself adding another author to my list of favourites.
I love Joy Fielding, Maeve Binchy and Belva Plain, but I also love Ed McBain, Andrew M. Greeley, Lawrence Sanders, Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwell... oh, the list is endless. I have read almost 800 books since I started keeping track in grade school (I think it was grade 7). I had a goal of reading every book Ed McBain ever wrote but the guy wrote so many I don't think it is even possible, especially if I read what he has written under other names.
I just finished an Agatha Christie novel. I picked it up because I knew it would be a quick read. They didn't write big huge books back then! I have so many books in my home to get through I don't think I'll ever read them all, especially since I keep bringing in new ones. And when someone on myLot recommends a book I write it down in my little notebook and keep an eye out for it.
I love books!

I've always loved reading and need to have at least one book in my book bag so that I can read. Right now I am really into Janet Evanovich. She is a tremendous author and I recommend you to read her. You will have so much fun reading her books. But if you are going to read it then start with the book called "One for the Money" and then the others are all numbers. She has some others that aren't numbers. You should so read that book that I just told you. It's about this girl called Stephanie Plum and it's a whole series. I just went to the library today to return some books and to check out some stuff. Good luck and i'm glad to see that you have rediscovered your passion for reading. ^_^

Yeah you should so read it. And you have to read it in order so that stuff can make sense. Each book starts with a number and then there are like two or three books that deal with the same character but don't have the numbers. Good luck. And I know that you will enjoy it.

I have heard that you are supposed to read the Janet Evanovich books in order. I have never read any of them so I guess I will try to read one this summer if I have time. I usually only read right before bed, or ocassionally in the afternoons.

Well i love all books, but for some reason i cant seem to turn away from the romance section to the other juicy sections, and every since i have picked up a Nora Roberts book i have been hooked and its very very hard to read anyone elses books at the moment and i believe it will stay that way till i read every single one of her books, she just captures me in every single one of her books, i have never read any of the aurthers you mentioned as of yet. i want to get into some mystery books, but like i said for some reason i cant turn away from my romance

I am loving it, I am starting to get to the point again where every five mins I get I pick my book up. But I am still in love with the "Other Boleyn girl".
I am going to be so sad when I come to the end of it, it is so beautifully written.

My favourite for years has been John Le Carre.
He writes literature as spy stories. The language is fantastic, the story line well paced, the characters are real.
Its like reading a classical author who writes spy fiction. I guess thats what he is and he's good at it.
As you said I will try Martina Cole as you said. I'm not really a lover of violence but if she writes well I'm interested.
I'm not into historical books but if I see Ms. Greggory I'll give her a try.
Its been a long time since I went into history.

Martina Cole is worth a read, she writes really well and knows her stuff. She did a lot of research into the lives that she writes about and they are good books.
But Phillipa Gregory can write and she does have a way with words that captivates me no end, if I could choose any style to write in it would be like that.

Just recently I've been reading the Philip Pullman series His Dark Materials which was made into the first movie of a series, The Golden Compass.
I found it to be quite gripping and onc I started one book, had to get the other two as soon as I could.
Much to my surprise, a book I've never read, Bram Stoker's Dracula, came to my attention when we were on holiday in Whitby last week and since I bought it I haven't been able to put it don. Written 100 years ago, it still has a modernity despite the flowery Victorian language, and it is quite unputdonable. Is there such a word?
Why not see if you can get my novel from the libarary, it is called Letter from Poitou by Michael J Eardley and the ISBN is 1-4137-0709-2
If they haven't got it they might order it for you.
Check out a sample at www.letterfrompoitou.co.uk to see if you like the style.
I'd love your feedback.

I am and have been reading Stephen King books for awhile now.. I used to read all of the time and had all of his books, but hadn't read all of them.. I got out of the habit of reading as much as I used to but am now trying to get this great old habit of reading going again.. So, I am reading Stephen King and trying to catch up on all of the books that I have in my 3 huge book shelves.. I do so enjoy a good long reading sessinio followed by a nap.. I also read a bit of Debbie McComber, I normally do not like love stories as they are so mushy, but I do like her books.. They hold my interest long enough to finish reading them..

I know what you are saying about the violence of her books, but that is the sort of book I like. I have always liked her style, in fact she is my inspiration for a short story I am writing, whether it turns out to be as good as any of hers I doubt but I will give it a go!
