I think when they get up in age like maybe 80, What do you think the age should be? I hear that this man that is 101 is still driving, and he lives in Ca. I am really suprise that they would let the man drive at his age, What are your views about this? I think that is to old. Anything could happen. I wouldn't want to be in his way. Ok, tell me what you think?

Here in California, they do not discriminate because of a drivers age. They do make them take driving tests every few years and that determines if you keep your license or not. You can lose your license at any age that way.

I see no reason what so ever that 100 year old people should not drive as long as they pass their physical exam. In fact I'd think old people are safer drivers than 16 year olds. What do you think could happen?

That can happen with anyone at any age. Kids get brain stokes. The important thing is to have medical check ups quite often. If people are well they should be able to drive even if they are getting older.

My dad is 92 and he still drives. He does not drive at night because he doesn't see as well. He knows this so he is always home before dark. As long as a person keeps passing their driver's license test I say they are okay to drive.

I don't think it should be by age, but by mental capacity. My grandmother is 82 and she drives just fine. However, there are people younger than her that shouldn't be driving because they have lost some of their mental faculties.

I think that their reflexes, mental ability and eyesight should be the guide for this. The family would be the first to see any of these problems. The problem is that when someone starts getting unsafe to drive their family doesn't want to upset them by taking their keys. I don't know if they just don't care if they get themselves or others killed but i feel that they should be held in some way responsible for whatever happens. After all bartenders can be held responsible for letting customers drive if they are drunk and unsafe.

I totally agree with you there. How about people that are diabetics, I don't think they should be driving either.

You lost me there. Most diabetics know when they are having a problem so take care of it. Usually the diabetics that have an episode behind the wheel it is a first time thing and they have no idea what is going on. If you stopped diabetic from driving then anyone who ever had a heart attack, a panic attack or any of a thousand other medical problems would have to be stopped from driving. If a person with a medical problem is unsafe to drive their M.D. has a duty to report that fact to the proper officials so that their license can be suspended either temporarily or permanent which ever is called for.

I don't think they should have their driving priviledges revoked just because they are getting old. I do think that they should have to take a class and also have testing done to be evaluated to make sure they were still with it. Sometimes family members have a tough time getting the person to stop driving, but if the state said no driving then the person would have no choice then to stop driving.

I think it all depends on how their health an their eyesight is some 90 year old drivers are better drivers then some young 30 year old drivers!

I suppose they are more careful, I just would trust them driving. Due to health problems anything could happen, Don't you think?

since a couple of years ago in one section of L.A. that was sectioned off for spanish shops and stuff, and an old man started down this drive way and mangled and killed a whole bunch of people before he could break to a stop, no old men in their eighties should not be driving. he told the police he had hit the wrong thing with his foot and could not stop until he found the brakes.Another incident in Newport Beach a' woman in her eighties drove over several p eople when her brake pedal got caught then she drove offf a pier and had to be helped 'out of her sinking car. the people she hit were not badly hurt thank Goodness for that. those that the old man hit were just mowed down as he was going about sixty miles an hour. he was charged with all sorts of things but I think he plea bargained out of jail due to ill health.

I don't think there should be a certain age that people have to stop driving, but I think that once people turn 50, they have to take a yearly reaction time test and have their vision tested in order to renew their license. It sounds harsh, but some people simply can not see well enough to continue driving and some people do not have the ability to react fast enough to avoid an accident.

I think this depends on the health condition of that person. When he feels he is not fix to driving, he should stop.

I do not think age matters. As long as the person can see well so the do not hit anything, why not. As long as there hearing is good and reflexes why not. If he could not drive any more the DMV would take his licenses away. My grandparents stopped driving on there own. They had a hard time with it. You take away there independence. It i hard for people to except that.

I think it shouldn't be about age exactly but the individual and what they can still handle. By 60 they should make them go get vision tests and hearing tests every year to make sure they are safe to drive. But then again teenagers are more likely to get into car accidently than old people. But thats more because of stupidity than any physical handicap.

Personally, I feel this should be left to a case by case basis. I have my Step Father In Law who is 80 and still drives all over the US with no real problems. My Father In Law is late 70s and still drives all the time as well. There are some who maybe should not be driving even younger than this that still do, and then a lot of older drivers are probably still safe to be doing this. So where do you draw the line? I say enforcing an age limit is not the best way to go about this one for sure. Why limit some of them when they are still able? Just my thoughts.

The older we get, the slower our reaction times are. I think that the more mature citizens, say 65 and over, should be put back on their p plates. Sadly, a lot of accidents where we are involve older people (65+) and they have been driving landrover like vehicles that they had no way of controlling. Just because they have been driving for 50+ years doesn't mean they are still able to drive in their twilight years. A restriction of the power and size should be imposed on them, which is what happens with young and new drivers here in Australia any way.

i think a person should stop driving when he gets to the point where he cant find his keys, or recognize the surroundings. he can't remember things.

I agree with you too, I was at this Concert downtown, and I ran into this lady, she was crying because she could not find her car. I think she must of had Altimers. The Security Guard helped her to locate her car.

Age should not be the factor in deciding when a person should stop driving. As long as they have the ability to drive and their reaction time is good, I say let them drive. If they are getting to where they can't keep up with the posted speed limits in town where the speed limits are low, maybe it is time for them to reevaluate the situation. I think that in our state, once you reach a certain age, you have to take the driving tests each time before your license can be renewed. Not sure about that though.

I think it depends on the ability of the person. Many people has proven that age is not an issue when it comes to driving. As long as they get tested regularly, I am good with it.

The ability to drive is very important for a person's sense of well being and independence. Having the ability to travel and get around without relying on friends and family members greatly enhances quality of life. Nobody should lose their independence solely because of their age. As long as they are physically and mentally capable of driving safely, they should be allowed to drive. Periodic testing of older drivers can help to ensure that a person who no longer has the ability to drive will be taken off the road, and not pose a risk to themselves or anyone else.
