giving your dog a bath

I'm sure there are many techniques on bathing dogs but the only way I can give my dog a bath without straining my back is to get in the tub with her. With that comes soapy water and dog hair, so much that I usually take a shower afterwards. Does anyone have a foolproof method of dog bathing?

Sometimes I put the dog in the tub and just kneel and give him a bath. but one a nice summer day I find it fun and he enjoys it more we wash him in the back of the house and shampoo him with the hose. We kinda make a game out of it!

I used to do the outdoor bath but it seems when I'm bathing one of the dogs the other three dogs just have to get involved somehow and we all wind up soaking wet.

i just put my dog on the sink and give her a bath there. my dog is a small breed and she fits just fine on the sink and i dont have to bend my body so much. but i always end up getting wet too. so take a bath afterwards...

Hi there TCampbell, My dad used to place our dog's hand in his arm and facing him..then by that position, dad can rub him and soap his entire body, so far, the dog will not move, he was train since he was a puppy!

Hey checapricorn, how are things? I think maybe that's my problem with my doggies. I didn't train them to enjoy their bathtime. Maybe your dad can fly out to Tucson and give my dogs a bath. Take care.

My dog is small so I am able to lift him in and out of the tub without too much trouble. I dont like giving him a bath but I will do it. In the warm weather I am tempted to give him a bath outside but he is afraid of the hose.

We have a bench outside, so I have my dog hop up on the seat, and I can wash her without bending over. She is a Labrador-mix, so this is not just a method for small dogs. This removes her chance to lean into me, and I will not get as wet or as hairy. After I rinse her off in the end, I put a lead around her (one that I do not mind getting wet, usually one from work because I accidentally bring them home), and we walk her around on the nearest white concrete walkway.

The bench might work for one of the younger pooches (I have four dogs) but I'd be afraid put my older dog on a bench, she has problems with her hips. But with the other dogs it might be o.k. I'll have to check into it. Thanks.

Yeah, our older dog has that problem, and we usually stand and bend over to bathe her. She is good and lets us get it done (the sooner it is over with, for her, the better!) and so we are not bending over to bathe her for so long.
