As we all know there are plethora of certifications available in different domains like SCJP,SCWCD,MCSE,ORACLE 9i and many many more. Now my question is what is the real worth of these certifications in the market.Apart from increase in knowledge does these certifications ensure better job or say job promotion.Does recruiters show any interest or any kind of inclination towards certified professionals? Are certified professionals preferred over non certified preofessional?

The certification do add value to your resume and can be a real source for you higher salary, bigger position (technical off course), and a great reputation.
But all these would come only when you display the knowledge you gained in your work. Just completing certification does not make you able to actually solve the real business problems. Finally its the hands-on experience that counts. I have 3 Java certifications (SCJP, SCWCD & SCBCD). But i havent got a chance to work on java project. This makes me feel i am tending to forget my learning.

certifications: don't you know that those certifications you've mention can bring to a higher position in an IT industry and by that it just only means that you have a very competitive salary. furthermore if you do have that certifications when you applied for the jobs specific for that certificate you have so its your advantage and you can even have a 80% sure of hiring you.

Well I have 10 certifications with me.5 from SUN,4 from IBM and 1 from ORACLE.I have a work ex of 2 years and i had been working for IBM only. For last 1 month I am looking for a switch.I gave interviews in 4 companies including Adobe, huawei etc and got selected in all.
But the common thing I noticed was that all these certifications almost went unnoticed.Infact in few interviews I had to explain what all these certifications are all about. It was my knowledge only which got me through all these interviews.I would say it was 70% my knowledge,20% my college(I am from reputed college),5% certifications and 5% others

wow, i'd love to have at least one certificate but since my knowledge is not that strong and don't have a money to go for this certification trainings and fees i'd rather have to stick with the job from where i am now and just go for a self study to improve my knowledge.

Depends on the job you are going after. Some companies focus more on the degree you have over the certifications. I have always found that certifications are a great way for those without a college degree to get noticed and - often - to get a better salary than someone with a degree.
