In spite of the right doing everything in their power to demonize her, as it stands right now Michelle Obama has a higher public approval rating than Cindy McCain. I think this is even without most of the public being aware of Cindy's past as a drug addict who stole from her own charity or a home wrecker who slept with the husband of a woman who had been disfigured in an auto accident. Sorry, I just had to add that since I'm sure if the shoe were on the "left" foot of Michelle Obama, we know it would be shoved down our throats 24/7.

Let's discuss it. What do you hope to see from the next First Lady or the two potential First Ladies during the campaign? Are they "fair game"? Do you think the coverage on them has been fair and balanced - now, I mean in the true sense of that phrase, not the Fox News slogan's definition. Have you tried Cindy's...er, Hershey's...butterscotch cookie recipe?

I can't stand Michelle Obama. She reminds me of a Stepford Wife.

She might be too, but I can't say I've much noticed her. I guess time will tell.

I haven't heard much of Cindy from the press but then I never turn on Fox news. I can't see giving a showing ratings when they never say anything that I agree with. I personally do not think that the press or the ladies themselves should be attacking either one of them. The Obamas seem way to nice to do that, since the months leading up to this Mr. Obama has not attacked the people that he has been running against. I believe that you are correct with your statement about "if the shoe were on the left foot...". Although, I am shocked that with the Republicans being so conservative, that they are not attacking Cindy.

I listen to The Stephanie Miller Show on the radio. One of their taglines is "We watch FOX News so you won't have to!"
Their "Right-Wing World" segment plays audio footage from FOX and just rips it to shreds in a hysterically funny way. Last I checked, there's virtually no progressive radio in Pa. Being a born and bred Philadelphian with a brother still back there, I'm really sorry to see my native state so slow on the draw. My brother now listens to it online (www.stephaniemiller.com), and he is hooked on it. It helps avoid the migraines and nausea associated with viewing FOX News.

Michelle's lead is actually a bit questionable based on those numbers. More people like her, but more people also hate her. There are also more people who haven't formed an opinion on Cindy McCain. When you really crunch all the numbers produced by the polls described on that site, you really come up with a lot of nothing. There just aren't enough solid opinions and typically candidates wives aren't a significant factor anyway. Granted, most candidate's wives don't publicly say things like "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country".

There hasn't been a candidate's wife since 1972 who has had the reason Michelle was referring to to be proud of their country! I know I wasn't proud of my country when it came to voter turnout and the involvement or engagement of young people in particular in our political process until this year. I think you know exactly what she meant, she's explained it repeatedly even though she didn't have to for me to know what she meant. I've really found it interesting that although the so-called "liberal media" has been hammering Michelle for this statement for months, nobody but Dan Abrams has even been giving mention to McCain's "I never really loved my country until I was deprived of her company" statement that he said a variation of at least four times. For the record, I'm no t attacking McCain for his comment either, it's just the unfairness of the media I have a problem with.

I wasn't aware that Cindy had such a sordid past...wow the truth comes out.I think they are fair game. The first lady has to be a class act think Jackie O. Laura Bush is even one. Nancy Reagan...Hillary as much as I don't like her still was a class act. I get that from Michelle. She would make a more suitable first lady especially since I know this about Cindy now. I bet she doesn't rip off cookie recipes either. LOL

What gets me about the right is that they don't seem to have any compassion or understanding that addiction is a disease unless it happens to one of their own, then it's fine to sweep it under the rug. When it came out about Rush Limbaugh's addiction to pain killers I'd have felt some empathy for him, especially since he's said his addiction began due to a back problem and I have severe back pain myself so I can understand how desperate you can get for relief, but it was his total hatred for others in the same situation even as he was going through it that angered me. These wealthy Republicans always seem to be able to make a deal so they pay no legal consequences for their acts but if it were you or me...well, I guess you know it would be a different story!

The candidates' wives are fair game. However, I find it sad that we attack them based on "old news" that rips up their past. Why not focus on more current events and their accomplishments?
That's not the entire story concerning Cindy McCain. She is quite an intelligent and caring person, as I'm sure Michelle Obama is. One of the things that impresses me about Cindy McCain is Operation Smile. She's on the board and travels quite a bit on their behalf. By the way, this is not new, she's been volunteering for years.
Her addiction to pain killers came as a result of back surgery, and she's not the first to become addicted. This has not been hidden at all, it's not a secret.
