A poll this week done by NBC and the Wall Street Journal has found that 79 % of Americas disapprove of the job Congress is doing. Only 13 % approve.
What do you think about these numbers? Do you approve or disapprove of what congress is doing? How come the mass public always complains about Bush and not Congress? (Such as here on mylot theres pleanty of topics bashing bush but none about congress!!)

Hello Cobracar,
I am definitely among the 79%. I'm old enough to remember prior congresses, and prior Speakers of the House.
When Tip O'Neill was the Speaker, he kept his eye on the ball. While he was unquestionable a 'party' man, he did not allow himself, or his party to lose sight of the best interests of the nation. Back then, the lunatic fringe of today's Democratic Party, still affiliated themselves with the Socialist-Workers Party, and/or the Communist Party -- because they were not welcomed in the Democratic Party. Today, that fringe is running the party!
Back then, the Democratic party fielded such representatives as Sam Stratton, who would most likely denounce today's Democrat party in the same way the Joe Lieberman, and Zell Miller have.

"How come the mass public always complains about Bush and not Congress?"
Well, that's an interesting question Cobracar. I would say that there are three intermingling reasons.
1. The news media, by it's own account, considers itself 90% Liberal. That bias is rampant through what is today 'news interpretation', as opposed to yesteryear's 'journalism'.
2. Many people erroneously attribute more powers to the Office of the Presidency than is accurately attributable. This I believe is traceable back to the 'deliberate dumbing down of America', vis a vis globalist directives throughout the Dept. of Education, which trickle down to the individual school districts. AND, is further exaccerbated by the Socialist-Liberal professors who have populated collegiate academia in a fashion reminscent of an infestation. Remember, todays teachers have been indoctrinated, not committed to the pursuit of developing the critical thinking skills of our children.
"But Iserbyt has done what no one else wanted or could do. She has put together the most formidable and practical compilation of documentation describing the well-planned “deliberate dumbing down” of American children by their education system. Anyone who has had any lingering hope that what the educators have been doing is a result of error, accident, or stupidity will be shocked by the way American social engineers have systematically gone about destroying the intellect of millions of American children for the purpose of leading the American people into a socialist world government controlled by behavioral and social scientists."

*** I challenge anyone who finds themselves appauled at my reference to the "deliberate dumbing down of America" to read the above link -- or better yet, the book.
3. Bush, in particular, has drawn the ire of people in a purely manic phenomenon. I honestly cannot compare the ire against Bush to Clinton, Reagan, or Carter. Nixon experienced landslide support -- until Soviet money began fueling the 'anti-war/peace, love, & doobies' protests. Then Nixon was blamed for Kennedy & LBJ's Viet Nam. Add to that the Watergate issue (which by comparison was mild to what today's politicians do to find out what their opponents are up to), and viola -- the ire against Nixon nearly matched that of Bush.
Personally, I suspect that the maniacal ire against Bush is overwhelmingly projectionist. I suspect that a great many Americans are projecting their angst about terrorism, 9/11/2001, the falling dollar, the failing educational system, etc... on to one man. Not so unlike the ire that was projected on to Michael Richards (of Cosmo Kramer fame) or Don Imus, in reaction to our deep national shame and resentment of racism.

Ladyluna, thank you so much for taking the time to present a well thought out and explained answer to the question. I always believe most news was bias but if your statistic that approximately 90 % considers itself liberal is true, thats just appaling. I completely agree about the dumbing down of America arguement. The website you posted is very interesting. Thank you again for the response

Wow! That was fast. Thank you for the Best Response (BR), Cobracar.
Though, if I may be so bold as to make a recommendation, most MyLotters do not choose a BR that quickly. Holding off allows for more folks to find their way to your discussions. Of course, the choice is yours. Though, some members have indicated that they're much less likely to respond if a BR is chosen. I hope that's helpful!
Anyway, in a cursory search I was unable to find the actual poll that tagged the US media as 90% liberal. Though, here is an interesting condemnation of the poll findings.

Whoo, *thumbs up* I think mainly it's because most of the people in Congress aren't running things very well. There's a FEW really awesome people in Congress...but the rest appear to be lazy, corrupt, or not there enough to make a difference.
I disapprove of individuals. There's too many of them to make a list, but I won't condemn the whole lot of them just 'cause I know there's still a few good ones.
Because Bush is at the top of things. Congress usually just lets him say the stupid crap like he's responsible so that those who really are, in Congress..don't have to deal with people hating them. Or that's my theory anyway

I think that the press and mylotters bash Bush more because he has more bumbles. His public speaking skills are very lacking in strength. But on to Congress, they appear to be trying to help the US economy. They have been passing bill that will help the American people. The two that interest me is the housing issue and unemployment. So I can't complain when they are doing so much to help all of the people that are struggling to make it through these tough times.
