I have had two Dell laptops and they have been great. Also, service is good too. Make sure you get a warranty. I checked oout Sony, HP and Dell. Dell was best price.

I currently own a HP, and I have had no problem with it. You really just need to look around depending on what you need it for.
I know what to avoid though. Before this I had a Compaq, I had to replace the motherboard in the machine 3 times, then the keyboard and mouse on it broke, this all happend withen 2 years and a few months.
Just keep an eye out and find one that fits your needs.

I have a dell inspiron B130. It is one of the cheaper brands as far as price goes. It really isn't made for gaming or for speed, but that isn't what I bought it for. I got it to use to type stuff on and do basic internet surfing. It does have a DVD player on it, so I can watch movies and stuff, but that is about as high tech as it gets for this model for the price I paid for it. I bought it new, and payed about $700 if I remember correctly. It does what I want it to do. I can type stuff, keep records, and surf the web with ease. You can get faster, more expensive models, and dell laptops are reliable and tough. This was about the best value for my budget and my needs. Just go to Dell's website and take a look around. You can play with the feature that allows you to add features and get ideas on prices. I had mine designed and purchased in less than an hour.

It depends on wht you want it for. if you want a sturdy one to work with on a regular basis, just basic online things (no high tech games) i would strongly reccomment a Lenovo T61 (what Im using right now) they offer great warrenties and have a quality product that is built well. you can get a lot of memory and RAM for a good price. check them out at www.lenovo.com

IBM. The keyboard, the track pointer are pleasure to use. You type in IBM, you hit in other laptops. My sister broke the hard drive. it was replaced free of cost. WARRANTY. :)
