Hi There,
I do have both a desktop and a laptop computer that I work from. I think they both have some advantages. I like the desktop because I like the stable work environment and my setup all around me. However, the laptop is nice too because I can carry it around to wherever I want to go. If the laptop is a top of the line one, I would have to go with the laptop at the end of the day.
cheers,

I prefer a laptop also. Although a lot of people don't like the small keyboards on a laptop, i really adore them. Small and everything at finger-length away :p .
I like the mobility and the fact that they are compact. I would hate to always have to copy my documents to a usb-drive everytime i go to school or need them elsewhere.
It's really a handy tool as a student.
I, myself, got a tablet pc, wich is even better then a laptop, because you can also write on it :) . When you have to draw a lot of diagrams and schemes it can be pretty handy to draw it just om the pc and being able to send them straight away through email. :p .
It's like a big pda actually, but much more abbilities and a bigger screen. And hopefully in the future a bit more lightweight.

Desktop for me too. It has standard keyboard layout and the right size for my hands. I don't have to worry about ventilation, it very tough and practically maintenance free. It put off so many worries and allow me to concentrate more on what I am doing ... computing.

i feel that the desktop is a much better option because of the spacious keyboard and easy upgrading...
but for portability of course laptop is better...

Desktop is the best one compared with any other, like laptops or ultra mobile pc (UMPC) at the same level of price. Yet, if you emphasize on the aspect of movement, of course laptop is better.

For me, it's laptop...
It's portable, you can carry and use it anywhere...
You're right, it's light in weight...
And it consumes less power compared to desktop computers...
On the other hand, if we're going to talk about the upgradability, Desktop computer is better...
Unlike laptop, desktop computers have several slot wherein you can put TV tuner, upgrade your video card, put multiple hard disks, etc...
