How would you feel?

Ok I was sitting here minding my own business enjoying the quiet (mom and my daughter took the big dog to the vet) when someone rings the doorbell. It is a detective.....apparently friday evening around 9ish there was a shooting in our neighborhood across the pond and the shooter ran through the woods and came out between one the houses on our street in the cul de sac where our house is. I didn't see or hear anything but that night our big dog was acting funny and was very aggitated. We couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. Now we know. The detective says he thinks it was a set up involving some of the "kids" in our neighborhood. I hate this. In March we had our house broken into and the guy (a 21 year old)stole my jewelry and our brand new car. He put 300 miles on the car, wrecked it and did $3000+ damage to it and was finally caught. that is when we bought our Akita she is huge and only 5 months old (45+ pounds) no one is coming into this house again. But more and more I want to move out to the boonies and get away from the crazies. How would you feel?

Keep your home secure and locked..no problem. Stay out of other people's issues, never speak to police and live in the neighborhood in peace! (And remember...fences make GREAT neighbors!)

We have always kept our doors locked our thief crawled under our garage door while we were all asleep in our rooms with our doors shut. It was around 4 in the morning when he broke in. The shooting occured around 9 in the evening. We have a vinyll privacy fence around our back yard that has padlocks on the gate. We have an iron gate on the entry way to the front door we also have an iron gate across the sliding glass door that leads to the sunroom. We don't mess with people and keep to ourselves but it seems like our nice quiet neighborhood is turning into crime central. We are secluded from the main road with only one entry and exit to our housing division. It used to be real quiet back here till a lot of the houses turned into rentals.

I am with you. I have often thought about it. I know it is not the answer but at times it sounds good. This world is going crazy and it is going to get worse.

I prevented my neigbour's murder once, and in Arizona my husband and I stopped a crazy ex-friend of one of the kids from breaking in. I don't feel great about this stuf happening, but when it does I kow how to deal with it. What is this world coming to that this stuff happens?

It doesn't matter where you live things will still happen. Even if you live in the boonies. I know that you were pissed about your home being broken into but at lest now you have a dog. That will help to let you know when someone is around that should not be close to the house. If nothing else, she gave you the warning that night of the shooting but didn't bug out. At least you know that her senses are up and working. That is good, just be careful and take all the caution that you can. Cause like I said earlier, no matter where you live in the city, town, or the boonies things will and still can happen. Have a good one.

Moving to the boonies won't help. I live in the boonies, in a very small community where everyone knows everyone else's business. It's far better than living in the city, but we still have problems. My house was vacant for a few years before we moved in, and some teenagers had been hiding out in the house, doing whatever teenagers do. Well we've lived here 2 years and these teenagers haven't stopped. They seem to think it's community property even though someone lives here. Kids that I don't even know have set up lemonade stands in my front yard, my backyard is tromped through regularly. Just yesterday someone, probably a teenager, was down in my basement and blew out the pilot lite to my hot water heater! We've had some of the children's play things stolen, and if we had anything valuable, I'm sure they would have been stolen as well. You're going to run into problems where ever you live unfortunatly... just seems to be a part of life these days. Pretty sad.

It just seems our quiet little neighborhood (we are a very small housing division with a hoa) has gotten so crime infested when the houses started to be made into rental houses. It has gotten worse and worse. I think I need a small town (we live in a huge town) with a nice place out away from everyone. I know every place has its problems but I am tired of the hustle and buslte of big city life.

I would feel very uncomfortable and afraid. We live in a trailer park and apparently this kind of thing happens all the time here, but thankfully it hasn't touched our family personally. It's just crazy how people act nowadays, like they think this behavior is okay, and it's not! If I were you, I would consider investing in some type of home security system..

There is only one way in or out of our subdivision all the streets are cul de sacs. It used to be quiet back here away from the main road but now it is a haven for crime. It is horrible. We have been burglarized 2 times in 3 years one time while we were home in bed asleep. Our neighbor across the street had his truck broken into and vandalled. Our neighbor right next door had thier cars broken into. several of the homes on other streets have been burglarized and now the shooting.

If my house was broken into, I would feel paranoid that it would happen again. I would install a top-of-the-line security system, change the locks, make sure my car was securely inside the garage, and that my dog was ready to tear up any trespasser. Also, I would make sure all of the windows were locked and the shades closed so that no one could see my valuable belongings.
