A scary day in New Orleans.

Houses in New Orleans - Houses and neighborhoods, not unlike the one that my Uncle lived in.

I read a discussion earlier about break-ins and shootings, and it made me think of something that I experienced. There was no shooting, but.. Several years ago, my family was all sitting on the balcony that overlooked the street in my Uncle's house in New Orleans. I headed inside to fetch a drink, and soon I hear the sound of a car skidding to a stop, shoes violently hitting the pavement, and my grandmother screaming THEY'RE COMING THIS WAY! THEY'RE GOING OVER THE FENCE! THEY WENT THIS WAY! I come to see the commotion, and by then, squad cars had pulled around the house. They told us to stay up on the second floor, to remain inside. They do a quick visual sweep before calling in the dogs. When the dogs got there, we moved to a room upstairs to watch as it sniffed around all of the houses around us. We had seen them run through our yard and jump the fence earlier, so we were sure that they were in a neighbor's yard. The dog seemed really fixated with the house behind us, but found nothing. All of sudden, the dog's head jerked towards my Uncle's house. We gave the police permission to search the bottom floor, and we watched the dog enter the house. About a minute later, we heard barking and screaming, and the entire house seemed to shake. GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR, GET DOWN ON THE FLOOR! We imitated it for the next week, and it gave us something to laugh about, but it is kind of scary knowing that someone could be in your house. Has anyone else had such a situation? What would you do in this situation? I will love to read your response.

Wow, I think we ARE the same person...lol Here's mine: My husband and I are downstairs in the basesment (where we lived at the time) and all of a sudden I hear the neighborhood dogs barking (VERY unusual), then I hear my 15 year old cousin at the back door telling someone what our address is in a VERY shaky voice. I open the door concerned about my cousin and all I see is police swarming our backyard with police dogs all over the place. The police officer told me to get inside and so I went upstairs to make sure everyone was alright. We looked out the back door (like we WERE NOT supposed to...lol) and we see a guy cornered by dogs and police backed up against our shed! There were spotlights, dogs, sirens, police and people everywhere! This is at like 12pm. They ended up arresting the guy. He had been in a high speed chase down the block, hit a car that was parked and a telephone pole, which demolished his car (and the one he hit) so he took off on foot and ended up in OUR yard. He was drunk as all get out and crying like a baby. To make it worse, he resisted the cops and we got to watch them mase him! LOL

I am glad that you are alright. Events like that are EXCITING, but also scary. Maced? I would have loved to see that. I have to wonder why people run. It makes the charges worse against them, and they have a small chance of actually getting away, and then a small chance of remaining unfound.

It was hilarious, he was crying and bawling like a baby when they did it so it made it even funnier =) I agree, these things are pretty exciting, but scary at times too =)
