Yes, I made the statement. I want to hear thoughts, pro or con and the reasons why. I have been heartened as of late. It seems that most people know what makes a gay person gay and most realize that it's something that just is. But I am taking an impromtu poll. Here is the question: What makes a person gay and do you agree? WHy or why not?

Hi cyntrow, There is nothing wrong with being gay. They are born that way and I think that anyone who takes the time to think about it will agree. Why should man be any different from others in the animal kingdom? Homosexuality is common among animals, and they are not able to choose. Of course, how could anyone believe that someone would choose it anyway? Blessings.

I can't imagine anyone choosing to be ridiculed, hated and both emotionally and physically hurt. There has to be something in the makeup with which one is born that makes them admire people of the same gender. How horribly difficult it must be! If heterosexuals people are questioned about their sexuality, they are probably offended, and few are willing to make their most private lives public. Why is it anyone's business what anyone's sexuality may be? I wish people who hate or are offended by anyone would just stay away from them!

What makes a person gay? Well IMO a TRUE gay person is born gay..as opposed to a person scorned by love who ends up gay curious or rebeling gay if that makes sense (and just so you know right now, cause I'm tired and lazy, when I say gay I'm refering to gay/lesbian and bi..)

Since I can remember I've had a strong attraction to women. I dated men in my early teen years due to society being cruel and unreasonable. I just didn't know how to go about that, go about telling my family or how society would view me. I am a lesbian. Don't know if I was born this way or became this way but I know I AM this way and that is that. I love women and men...just choose to date women since it is my preference. We shouldn't be ridiculed or lectured because of our sexuality. Plus, who are YOU (not pointing at anyone, just making a statement) to judge me and what I do with my PRIVATE life? I've been "out" for 8 years and I've never been happier doing what I feel I can do as an adult, as a human being and as a respectful person in this society where people of DIFFERENT beliefs are hated and slapped on. I'm happy.

Cher. Cher made me gay. Bette Midler too. Your other question - yes gay people are f.i.n.e. I know I am. Or at the very least I am strikingly handsom :p

Ah Tee, you're hot and you know it. Personally, I think that Liza Minelli made most men gay and it just continued down the generations.

I'm pretty sure Liza Minelli's enough to make anyone gay.

I think being gay is something a person is born with. I'd say this for two main reasons. The first being that no one would choose to be different if they could avoid it. To use an example from the past when being African American carried more of a stigma to it, in history class we learned that around 1954 for Brown vs. Board of Education some children were polled to see if they wanted a white doll or a black doll. And all of them wanted a white doll. If those kids could have had a choice of being black or white, they would have chosen to be white in that time period. If gay and straight students were asked the same question today, I think that they would also say that they wanted to be straight. The second reason that I believe this is true that being gay is something you are born with, is because I come from a very homophobic household, yet I am a lesbian. If it was a choice, I can't see how I would possibly choose this.

I didn't mean that I would take a straight pill if they ever came out with one, just that I can't see what could have possibly ever sparked me to choose this if it was a choice like some people say. Now I am happy with who I am despite that my parents will probably just hate me forever and most of my family will eventually disown me too when they all find out.

Because I guess they happen to let out what they feel just simple as that. Unlike others who keep things bottled up inside.

I agree with some of the other commenters that a true gay person is born that way. I don't think most gay people say they're straight and then one day go "I'm gay now."

Gay people are people. End of. They are no worse or better than anyone else. What makes them gay - well God does of course! xxx

The causes of homosexuality are, as of yet, unknown. There are a number of different ideas about it, though most of them seem to concur that homosexuality is NOT chosen. Some believe it's genetic, some believe it has to do with the environment of the womb during the fetal stage, some believe it's a result of developement, and some believe it's a mixture of all three. I personally believe that people are born with a pre-disposition to a certain sexuality, and that the environment they grow up in may (but not always) contribute to how they turn out sexually. One way or the other, homosexuality is perfectly natural and not something I take issue with.

I don't think a person is born gay but ends up becoming gay sometime in their life after they are born. I say being gay is a reaction. Kind of like you don't choose to like the taste of certain foods but it just appeals to you same with being gay. I don't think it is wrong to be gay. I don't think it is wrong to be attracted to anything really.

My hubby and I share a house with a gay man. B.W. is a good friend and an excellent roommate. I truly believe that most are born that way but I do think there are a few who choose to be gay because of other things happening in their lives. In our northern city in Ontario we often get missionaries going from door to door preaching their faith. One of these tried to tell me that homosexuality is totally against God's plan. So I asked him a few questions. 1; Do you think that God is perfect and all knowing? His reply was "Yes." 2: Do you think that God makes mistakes? His answer was a definite "No." My reply to him then was, "Well God created Gays also, so that makes them perfect also, just like the rest of us." With that he had no reply and left.

The same thing that makes a straight person straight, we are born gay. Is it hereditary? Maybe. I had a Aunt on my Father's side that was gay. As far as I know, so far, I am the only member of my family that was born gay. Diabetes is also in the blood line of my family. My youngest niece inherited that. I have one brother that inherited being left-handed, from my maternal grandfather. 2 brothers inherited red hair, from my maternal grandmother. 1 brother inherited my maternal grandmother's blue eyes, the rest of us have brown eyes. These are all inborn traits. I do think homosexuality is an inherent trait. I didn't choose to be gay, just as my niece didn't choose to contract diabetes. It's just the luck of the draw. PEACE

to be honest...I really don't know the answer. I am thinking that they are born that way and that is just how it is. Some say it is a matter of choice and that's ok too. It really never mattered much to me WHY they are gay. I really don't care and don't understand why people care so much as they do. Why am I hetrosexual? I'd be quite upset if someone started making me feel as if I were less of a person because I am....I just am.

I don't know why; it could be inborn or some past experience had made that person lose trust in their own kind. Whatever it is, it's a person' s choice - their right to the way they want to live or love. So live and let live!
