Ok. I got an idea. Something I like and want to learn more about. So for the first time I am trying to build a website. Without alot of money and I have NO EXPERIENCE!! This is a personal website. For information, ideas, opinions etc. I downloaded Netobjects. It says you can be up an running in like 5 minutes...LOL I have been messing with it off an on all day. The one thing i think I have noticed is I dont see a way to have blogging, interactive forums etc. Any Advice I would greatly appreciate. I am really excited about my topic. And do not want to give up yet. I already have a registered domain name. Too long yes but I like it. I also registed with a free hosting company called pinkpaper. Any information on them? Has anyone used them? I am determined to learn this so am all ears. Thanks

You can get free blogging software from wordpress.com and there are many free forum software available too. A simple search should provide more than enough choices. You just need to find out how to install them on your web hosting.

For a blogging type website you would need a variety of scripting languages like PHP, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, and a few others. Without at least basic knowledge in them, It's going to be an extremely tough job making a website.

I don't have personal experience of Netobjects or Pinkpaper so I can't comment on how good either of them is. In the short term I recommend you use Blogger. It's simple and fast to set up and your blog will be up and running within minutes. I've built a few websites and it's not easy. There's a lot of trial and error involved and it takes time to get it right. Another one that springs to mind is Bravenet. They have a website builder and there's a free option as well. Netobjects sounds pretty similar although Bravenet do have the option of adding forums, etc. But even the "build your own website in minutes" stuff is never as straightforward as it claims to be. By all means persevere with building your own site but I think you should make the most of your initial burst of enthusiasm by having something which is active now.

I just recently designed a web site for my Sister and Brother-in-Law's fishing charter company. I used Homestead. They have a fairly easy program to use with alot of different templates etc. I loved the results. And I dont know coding at all. No HTML experience necessary. I would give you the link but I am not sure if that is allowed here.

If you want to do blogging maybe you should open up a page on one of the blogging websites. I have a webpage with freewebs and it is very easy to understand and navigate. Its a webpage to showcase some of the hair accessories I make along with the price and how to order. You can also use your domain name on freewebs. I like freewebs. They help you set up your webpage, and best of all it is free. Maybe you should check it out.

Building a website can be really hard, depending on what you want. I rememeber the very first website I built 5 years ago. It was used by people at my school to play games on because any other game website was blocked. It was fairly basic. I used something called Microsoft Frontpage which recently became a now unsupported product by Microsoft (they don't make the program anymore). I'd say I know quite a bit about HTML, PHP and building websites in general, just from experimenting with different programs over my 5 years. That's the way I learn, doing it the hard way. If you're just wanting a blog/forums, I recommend wordpress for a blogging system, or PhpBB for a forum. PhpBB isnt hard to set up, but you need to know how to connect it to an MySQL database. I have not heard of pinkpaper. You're best bet is to get a paid hosting service but one that is fairly cheap. I recommend fasthosts.com Hope that helps :)

hey there, building a website is hard enough. I have tried it several times and it was not as easy as I thought it was. You have to get familiar with HTML stuff. Knowing how to use Flash is also essential if you really want your website to look great with animation and stuff. I guess making a blog or editing your page in Myspace or friendster would be easier for people with no basic knowledge but it will be great if you can make it on your own and you can make money by building one for other people. Good Luck.
