Can you fall pregnant while still breast feeding?

I am still breast feeding my 14 month old daughter & have been told by a few different people that you can & can't fall pregnant while breast feeding. Although my husband & I haven't started trying for another one yet, we'd like to start probably later this year so there is only 2 - 3 years age difference between our children. My daughter won't come off the breast so I am letting her ween herslf in her own time which is working but I think she may still be feeding from me until she's 18 months - 2 years old. Can anyone tell me from their own experience or a friends experience or a medical view?

Hi. Yes dear, you can most definately fall pregnant from a medical point of view. Be sure to use protection of some kind if you do not want to fall pregnant right now. good luck!

Don't you discuss these things with your doctor???

With the five minutes that you get to speak with and spend with the doctor, I do not think you will get a very detailed answer! It is smart to seek the advice of women who have real life experiences!

You definately can become pregnant, it just depends on when your cycle continues. A friend of mine has children who are 11 months apart. With my last baby, my periods did not return until almost a year after I weaned him.

They say that it's less likely but it can happen. Why don't you look for information online? It is out there somewhere!

Oh yes. I was nursing one of my daughters and she was about 8, 9 months old when I discovered I was pregnant with my next one. I used to hear that story too but obviously it is just an old wives tale.
