I haven't able to be on here much, so I apologize if this discussion or its kind has been posted recently. I went to see Get Smart with my parents this week, on account of my dad's birthday and I wanted to take him to a movie he wanted to see. So we went to see it, and although it started out slow, I thought it was quite funny. It paid homage to the old TV show, but definitely added new things to it. But don't take your young kids with you. At least I would advise not to. I saw parents with some 7 and 8 year olds in the movie, and although it was PG-13, the younger kids probably shouldn't have been in there. Although maybe the parents couldn't get a babysitter.
There have been a lot of remakes of old shows, some good (Mission Impossible) and some bad (Starsky and Hutch). Which former TV show would you like to be seen made into a movie? They have a new X-Files movie coming out, so you can pick a recent show to if you want.

I plan on seeing this Movie..I've seen trailers, and it looks funny! I can remember the series on TV,and I was wondering how the 60's Bond spoof gags like the Shoephone would work when technology has moved on and everyone has Cellphones now..It's in there as an Homage,I think
I don't know how they could re-invent the A-Team,for example,Knight Rider has been redone for TV,Batman is still being reworked..As a Fan of "Firefly",(Cut short with nearly a season made)and brought to the Big Screen as "Serenity",I'd like to see a Sequel before the Cast Lose interest in working together again..

I never really like the show "Get Smart" nor a lot of the older shows that you mentioned, but my husband sure did.. He loved the old Starsky and Hutch, the X-files and many others, but I never really did care for most of that type show.. I am a huge fan of ER, so I would love to see a movie made from it, with all of the original characters, now I would go to see that one..

When I was a kid in the 50's I used to love the cowboy shows. I would love to see one of the old classics come back as a movie. Also, I never like Get Smart much, but I used to love The Man From Uncle. I'd love to see a movie remake of that.

i'd love to see the Get Smart movie, but I don't think anyone could ever take the place of Don Adams, no matter how good they were. He was the show.
I think parents that take kids to inappropriate age movies should be refused entry as the kids can end up having all sorts of problems when exposed to more delicate materials from a young age.
Not only that, but how many younger kids can sit still through a whole movie? I can't sit still!

My son has been asking me about going to it but he will be 12 in a week so I think he will be fine going to it. My son just wants to see it becasuse The Rock Dewayne Johnson plays in it. I think it looks like it could be funny.

It seems they are doing alot of remakes of the old shows we love and know and still watch through TVLand channel. I have seen several like.. Bewitched withNicole Kidman and Wll Ferrell,Hulk, and The Honeymooners. I actually would like to see a Charmed Movie showing them maybe 14 or so years from where they off and maybe teaching there kids the things like magic and so on..I think it would be great. Also maybe a movie made of a remake of Sanford and son, The A-team or even the one where he was a Martian I forgot the name of it though.

I've been wanting to see that movie. I don't have any children but I do have an elderly mother that I care for so it might not be a good choice for her. We watched this show all the time when it originally came on. I was too young to really understand the show but I remember how my parents would laugh when it was on. Of course, adding "the Rock" to it doesn't hurt, lol. He's pretty easy on the eyes.

I loved the old Get Smart when I was growing up, but I love the stars that played in it. The newer stars coming on are not as good as the older ones. Maybe it is because years ago those stars had a lot more talent and they were less in the public eye. Nobody knew their personal business. Which show would I like to see made into a movie? The Andy Griffith Show!!!!

Thanks for the advice! I was planning on going to see it this weekend as it was one of my favorite shows and I love Steve Carrell. My kids are a bit older (15 and 13) but they don't know anything about the old show so I don't think they will enjoy it as much as me. I used to love Marcus Welby MD, but there are so many doctor shows on tv that I don't think there would ever be a movie. Thanks again for the review!

I remember Get Smart from the days when I saw it on TV at home. It was such a cute show. Quite some chaaracters who always were original and always surprised you with what they did.
I don't look at TV so much now but you do have to wonder why there aren't more like these.
Such truly original shows that seem as if there could never be another like it.
I guess thats what originality is all about.

Morning Pam..I heard its one of the better remakes like the Fugitive with Harrison Ford.
Now for a show to be remade it has to be a good one or entertaining..I would love to see the Monkees show from th 60's..maybe with Jim Carrey, and Adam sandler,,they can pull it off

I remember watching the old shows of "Get Smart" I loved his shoe phone. LOL They did a remake of "Bewitched" so I think I would like to see a remake of "I Dream of Jeannie".

I would imagine that remakes would not make much sense to kids who have no way of relating to old material. I am not a fan of remakes myself but I did see some movies which were remakes of old movies like the one which had Warren Beatty which was a remake of the old William Holden movie, an affair to remember. I never saw the old movie but I liked the new one. I hope to see the original movie if there is a copy in dvd.

I have this old habit of googling about movies I just watched. I did the same for Get Smart, and only then did I find out that it was actually a remake of this TV series. Lolz. Forgive me for not knowing, but I live all the way here in the Philippines, and I never really heard of it until now. Can't say if they did the series justice or not, but what I'm sure of is that it was hilarious as hell! I adore physical comedy, but I love witty comedy even more--two factors that this movie definitely has. I strongly suggest it to anyone looking for a good laugh.
As for movie remakes of TV shows, I'm gonna say Will and Grace. Definitely. Lolz. The finale was lovely and all, but sometimes I wish there was more. I would really enjoy the idea of seeing the cast once more, even if it means going to the silver screen.
xoxo,
ajhie!

Ya I have heard that Get Smart is a remake movie. But I don't know where it is being remaked and I'm sure it will be a very good Comedy film. I liked its trailer when he makes some senseless signals at her when she is just beside him in between some shooting scene in a building when they're hiding behind some sofa or wall or curtain or something I cant remember very well.
