Soap opera's primary audience is supposed to be housewifes. Because you can stop watching for like a whole month and still follow the story. Not to mention that you can watch it while doing housechores around the house with no problem because missing a couple of minutes is suppose to be no problem at all. What do you think about this?

They're a big core group of the soap fanbase, but they're not the only ones. The coveted soap demographic that the shows always battle it out for are in the teen demographics. That's why you see more teen characters and less adults on your television sets in the summer when school is out. It's also why the shows have no qualms firing soap veterans (and upsetting older fans in the process) in exchange for new and younger actors.
Another often overlooked core group is the gay community. Some shows, but not all, created more identifiable stories back in the 90s to reach out to the gay community. Today, there is one popular gay pairing taking the soap world by storm, but alas they are only one couple on one show.
Still, the soap opera audience is varied and diverse. I've posted at a couple of soap opera message boards for quite a few years, and I've meet people from all walks of life. Unfortunately, one of the constant criticisms is how "whitewashed" the shows are and now they don't change in order to reflect the times and their many colors of fans. Tune into any soap and I can guarantee that most of the characters you see with actual story are Caucasians. While some shows have minorities here and there, it's rare that they get an actual lead story. It hasn't always been that way though. The stories you see on screen back in the 90s were ahead of their time and with much variety, you saw people from different backgrounds (race, sexuality, economic class) at the forefront in socially relevant stories. But the 90s are over, and soap operas, who once took risks and forward steps with their storylines, have taken a huge step back.

Yes, of course most of housewifes love watching soaf opera. The reason is quite clear. They can relate to the stories. But i even as a male also watch soap opera. It depends upon the story how good and interesting it is.

No, it can be for any woman. My aunt used to watch Soap Operas when we were younger. She was not married, but I think she was engaged, to my soon to be uncle. She was living in the same house as we were. It is not only for housewives, but for other women as well. My aunt worked at Hardee's during this time. Before she went to work, she would look at the show, or after she got off from work. I am a housewife, and I hardly ever watch Soap Operas. But, I do love my Passions!!!!!!!!

Soap operas are perfect for background noise when you are doing your chores. A few minutes here and there never really hurts the story line. Plus the characters on todays soaps are the same as they were years ago...nothing ever really changes just like you said!
