Well, I don't know much about file recovery, especially for partitioned files. I guess you could just create multiple back-ups. This is a very good topic and I hope somebody with extensive knowledge about this one posts a topic.

I have to say that I love norton goback. Has always worked for me anytime I have done anything stupid and saved me more than once from having to reinstall my operating system. you should check the recycle bin as it should still be there and if not there are programs out there that will try and recover lost data so long as you haven't used your disk heavily as this will likely mean that some of your data will have been overwritten.
