happy with earnings

It really kind of tickles my funny-bones when I read post after post about people who are happy about the fact that they are reaching payout of $10 for a month or multiple months of posting. Some boast of working five or more hours a day for 40 cents!
If these same people were paid $10 a month for their work on regular jobs, I doubt they'd be smiling in the bank line.
Don't get me wrong, I'm going to be one of those happy people if and when I ever reach my first payout! But, because I know I will be happy, I wondered WHY will be happy with a meager $10 payout for my time spent in mylot.
I've decided it must have something to do with the competitive nature in me. I have a goal. I want to reach that goal. When I reach it, I am elated. What else can it be?
It is fun to read posts and give and receive responses. To get a little something for that little bit of enjoyment is just a little bonus.
Why are YOU so happy to recive a penny or so a day?

Because you are earning in your spare time, be it .10 or $10.00. And like you said, it becomes a competition.
How much can I earn today versus yesterday.
I wasn't happy with my last daily earnings, and am making an effort to surpass that amount today.
It's just human nature.

That kind of human nature sometimes tends to get me into trouble! :-) I find I am having a little too much fun with my competitive nature when I should be doing other things. I had a slow start on mylot because of my busy life, but thought it would be fun to be more involved with it through summer while I'm off from college. Well, I got a job as a copy writer on-line. It pays well and the hours are flexible. So, where am I right now? Here!

I agree, it's the competitive nature of people added to the fact that someone is actually paying me to do something that I enjoy. This place is only one of the keys to earning decent money online which is why I see so many posts about different sites...other people are really putting in hours coming here and to other sites. I just like having discussions and making a little bit of extra money is an added bonus.

I do enjoy mylot and helium.com. On helium, I've done only a few (17) articles, but I enjoy posting on one particular thread and have made "friends" there. We have fun with creating poems and stories together, and it kind of sparks our creativity. They have other games that help keep our minds alert and "word-minded". Again, pay is small for the time put into it, but it is enjoyable. A hobby for some, perhaps?

Hi Annie!
It's pretty cool to make some pocket change here. I like it here because there are so many different kinds of people with so many interest. Many have the same interests as I do and I like to see what their opinions are or the way they do things. There have been some funnies here, too.
I like to set goals here, too. I have passed my first dollar and I have over 100 posts. My next goal is to reach 200 so that I will be able to use the emoticons here. I like to use emoticons sometimes to show how I am reacting while I'm typing or what my reaction is to what someone else has written.
Well, I'm off to make another response!!!

Yes, it is nice to connect with people who have the same interests. It is also cool to find things of which you had no interest, but that you can learn from and maybe develop an interest.
Sometimes, it is fun to read someone's fumbles, mistakes, embarrassments in life and have their stories bring to mind similar happenings in your life.
I'm working on my goal of 100 posts. And I'm competing with you, so look out!

when I first got to mylot I was ready to quit after my first few weeks. I was disappointed in that I was posting my hinny off and getting hardly nothing for it. I then came back on and started just responding and enjoying the conversations. It took me three months to earn the payout amout but I missed payout deadline by one day lol. July will be my first payment and I have made more than the payout amount this month alone. Once I quit focusing on the money I did better. I am now making around a dollar a day and having a blast doing it. I think that is why we are all so happy to spend hours on here for pocket change. I have joined other sites like this one and one is paying(supposedly) more. I just don't like the layout of it and it isn't as much fun so I return here because it is easier and more fun to post here than any where else.

I agree that this site is easy to work in. I still don't know much about the perks, rewards, payouts, how to get the best earning, ect. But, I really don't care. I think it is fun to watch my post number go up and look to see if I got any more money added -- though I'm not focused on the money. (I do need money though, badly, so don't think I'm being a snob about the money -- I just know I won't be getting wealthy here, so I just don't think about it.) It is just kind of like a score to me at this point.

I'm going back to school. So considering my prime focus is on that, getting paid for work I do elsewhere, is quite helpful (economy, gas prices, food, etc) I've been around mylot for a couple months now, and it's a wonderful community. I've learned from these people, laughed with them, etc.
My goal is to post quality responses...and to make friends....but if I can make money too, well I do have needs, and money can buy a lot of them...not to mention, every little bit counts...
And maybe while these people are working 5 hours to post, they are also training themselves to use this kind of community, some people aren't as computer savvy...

I'm definitely not computer savvy. I definitely need extra money and I definitely know every penny counts and adds up. I definitely am competitive in nature. I definitely enjoy reading, laughing and making new friens. I guess that's why I find myself right here in mylot!
Good luck with school!!!!!!!! I'm taking a break this summer, but will start again in August.

I think it is partially because of competitiveness, but I think it is also because you are essentially getting paid a little for doing something you enjoy in your free time. I have yet to earn that much, but it will come soon enough! The way I view it, it is a little bit of money that I did not have previously and I did not have to spend any money to get it!

Hi, yeah, I look at it as a little bit of money that I didn't have previously, and that I don't have yet, and I didn't have to spend money to get --but that I WILL spend when I get it! :-)
Yes, it is enjoyable and that seems to be the best part. It is a way of connecting, too.

I like to respond to discussions and lately I have been responding to dire, negative, gloomy discussions. There is nothing wrong with bad things happening and talking about them but I am taking a break from these types of discussions. I don't care to analyze the reason for being happy. I am happy with them if they make a cent or a dollar. What's it to me? The important thing is that people are happy. Others could be unhappy with the million dollars they are making when they think they could make two million. I would go with the few cents that magically evoke happiness.

Hi, underdogtoo, I can only take the doom and gloom ones in small doses because I hear so much doom and gloom on the news and with our local flooding a couple of weeks ago.
I was hoping for lighthearted insights into why people are happy to get a few cents or so a day -- and not for people to have to analyze why they are happy. As I said, it tickles me that so little can make people happy. It's a good thing!

Hmm...I find five hours quite alot to earn $0.40 cents. Personally I spend about 2 hours a day on myLot and earn anywhere from $0.30cents up.
I have to admit, I like having that extra $10 dollars for the month ahead. With the way prices are these days every little bit helps and since I am always on the computer in the evening/night, why not make a little cash from it right?
I have to admit, when I first started out getting to $10 dollars did not bug me but when I did see my earnings cross that ten dollar mark I felt proud! Personally, I do set a goal of $15USD for payout each month but when mylot is slow I only make a little over $10USD for the month.
Anyway, it's nice to get paid for something you usually do for free anyway

Yes, that is a good way to look at it . . . nice to get paid for something you usually do for free anyway. It seems to me that this has taken the place of having "penpals" like kids used to when I was growing up. Usually, though, you would only have one penpal from somewhere far away and you would write letters once a week or once a month.
Now, you can write to many people every day, several times a day and from all over the World and get a response instantly instead of waiting days or weeks for a response. That is part of the fun, too.

I disagree with being happy because of our competitive nature. If we were all so competitive then we wouldn't be happy at all with just $10 as you said. Instead, we would all want to reach $100 payouts! For me,I'm happy because $10 is the fruit of my efforts. It;s not much, but I don;t work hard enough posting replies here on myLot anyway. Even though I try to log in every day, the effort I put into is nothing like bagging groceries, filing papers, making reports, doing financial analysis, etc. So whatever I get, no matter how small, is appreciated. Especially now that times are hard, money is money.

The earnings here for me, are just bonuses. I do need and love to earn money, but right now, I see myLot as a great place with great people. Being able to spend time talking, sharing thoughts and learning with these people, it all makes it worthwhile. This is the reason why I am happy here in myLot. Indeed, the earnings are just bonuses.

I really doubt people are paying their mortgages with this money...lol I would assume that most are young kids and 10 bucks can go along way for them. Ok, really though....I haven't recieved even a penny yet so when i make 2, i'll put in my 2 cents..hahahah

I've heard people say they don't even have two cents to rub together -- I guess that would be you. Well, get to posting and let's see if we can get that little problem taken care of!
No, I am working hard to try and save my mortgage, but I'm pretty sure mylot isn't going to help me there. :-)
Your comment does bring to mind a question as to whether most are young kids, or adults, or even senior adults . . . just looking to pass the time, or earn a few pennies a day.

Shooie, You've Got Mail!
Yes, I hadn't thought of that movie and it is kind of like that. You get to that point where you can't wait to look and see what happened while you were away. Did you get a response? Did you get a few points or a few cents?
I think we will have to have mylots annonymous. It is addicting!

I'm happy with that because it means that I reduce my debt load (of which I have way to much) without being tempted to spend it, which I would sadly be if it was put into my bank account. $10.00 is not much even to me who doesn't really understand how real money works because until this year I couldn't have any. I think though for writers, artists, and other people who are not really used to having money every little bit helps. Some myloters can not even leave the house to work so this is as close as they get. Although, I worry about some of them as to whether or not they are addicted to this site.

I find mylot to be a fun site and you meet all sorts of people from all over the world . You can find things that fancy you and have fun talking about it . I think it is like a message board and this is better because you get paid . I know for me I like to push myself an hr each morning just to see what the next day will have said I made . Also, the mylot helps when I have sleepless nights . I work from my house too and this is something to do while I take my mind off other things . I think for many people here every little bit helps and it does add up .
I know I belong to my lot and a few other sites kinda like it and will only put in no more than a few hrs off and on daily . At the end of the month it adds up to and extra 200 and sometimes even more . I hope you have a wonderful sunday !! And happy posting !! have some fun

I love that fact that we can make connections with people from all over the world. It is much better than the old penpal days when I was a child.
I work from my home also and I do find it an easy break from my work to hop on over onto mylot and see what's happening there. I just need to be more disciplined and get back to my work quicker. It's just that mylot is more fun than my work!

I think the real joy from getting money with myLot is it doesn't feel like work. You're just having fun with a community of people and you happen to be getting paid. The more you get paid for having fun the more exciting it is. I doubt anyone here does myLot purely as work and grumbles about having to post. Fun + money = more fun. Fun = happy. It's all simple math really. :)
