This was taken during a walk last weekend at the local nature center near my house. It was in an area that was waist deep plant growth and tons of bugs etc. The deer was about 500 feet away and I could not get a very focused shot. I have about 5 shots and this is the best I could do. Anyhow it munched and watched me very intently until my wife asked something loudly scaring it off.

I love deers they are so graceful and beautiful and you are lucky to get that close to them. I cannot see the photo as I have come through my emails but I shall have a look at it when I post this to you.

I wasn't all that close actually. Maybe 500 to 700 feet or so. Longer than a football field away actually. But still a great sight to see and watch as she darted off after hearing my wifes voice. Thanks also.

That is awesome. I grew up on a farm and live in a rural part of Texas. I love watching the wildlife around here, especially the deer. I even have a few bull snakes that live in my garden. Every once in a while they scare the crap out of me, but they ward off the rattle snakes! Great shot, and I hope you see many more in the days to come!

I live in a city of 60,000 and less than a mile from tyhis Nature Center. I've seen deer running across my street actually this year. There's a lot of them at the center. Plus we are very near the Mississippi River so theres a lot of nature that deer love. Thanks also.

You need to come to my house sometime, Grandpa Bob. I have deer in my back yard all the time! I've also seen red foxes and a whole gang of turkeys one time!

It must be really nice near where you live...sure wish I could walk around and bump into a deer, or other "wildlife"I took this picture of a deer many, many moons ago...hehe...on one of my trips to Disneyworld and this was taken at the Discovery Island area.
It was taken on Ilford Black and White film ASA speed 400, and I had my trusty 85mm-205mm zoom lens

I just commented on your photo too...It's amazing I remember the type of film and lens I used, considering I took that photo in 1978! Yikes 30 years ago

Hello dear Grandpa Bob. It seems that this whitetail deer is looking at you curiously. He might be saying to himself, "what is Grandpa Bob doing with that small stuff in his hand?" Well, it is nice to see animals in the wild, not in a caged place. Happy photo taking, Grandpa Bob.

It stood there staring a fw minutes then went back to eating the fields. Then it would stop and stare again.

I am a avid deer hunter, mostly with a stickbow and one of the neatest things to see deer when they are just a few feet away and do not even know you are there. It isn't even about shooting them, yes I will fill my tag every year but when you are out and just setting in the tree stand it is all about relaxing and enjoying nature.

I'm surprised he stood there that long. We have lots of deer here. Yesterday I was helping my husband with a book and gift fair at a nursing home and one of the employees had a baby deer. One of the vets had called her as something had happened to its mother and the fawn was not weaned yet. She was carrying it around and had it on a leash and bottle feeding it. It was the cutest thing. When she was holding it
the deer would turn its head up and lick her chin...like it actually thought she was it's mother. Apparently she has done this before..taken care of wild animals that were sick and left motherless. That reminds me, how is Minnie's raccoon?

She was actually a long ways off but stared as she heard the slightest noise. She knew she was far enough away from us that we were not a threat and she could run away before we got anywhere near her. Awww sounds cute. Deer like salt a lot and will lick the humans body as our sweat glands are very salty. They also have "salt lick blocks" that farmers etc set out for the deer to enjoy. The racoon (Missy) is getting huge and ornary as expected. HAHAHA!!

hey, nice!
I love watching the wildlife that comes through our property - we have had a lot of deer this year, many more than usual. Do you think it could be because we are conserving gas and not mowing everything??? leaving some areas more naturalized? though we have seen them on our mowed cliff and on our chat lined driveway.

It could be because of the wild weather all over. Some areas too dry so the deer are nearer the cities looking and foraging for food. then too wet and the woods are saturated beyong clover etc being able to grow really well. both those can contribute to deer being closer to people this year. Thanks also.

Isn't it amazing when you can see these beautiful animals in their habitat AGB? We normally get to see a deer or two when we are on holiday in Aviemore but I couldn't manage the walks this year and we didn't get to catch a glimpse unfortunately. Thanks for sharing this shot! Hugs xxx

I see deer running around all the time around my house. I of course never have a camera when I see them. I am normally out in the yard or driving down the road. Twice in 2 days a few weeks ago I saw a mother deer and a baby deer on the side of the road. The sightings were only about a mile apart. It could have possibly been the same pair both times.

I love to watch deer and had not known we had any up in the 'tustin hills until the horrible two weeks of wild fires last fall. the poor deer were driven from the canyons and
came down into the Tustin streets trying to get away from the flames, the ash, and soot. they were scared silly the fish and game people had to take them and put them in safe areas in the hills where the fire had not been. the first time in my life that I thought for an hour or so that the city of Tustin was going to be in the fires path then the wind changed and it did
not touch the city of Tustin at all. for two long weeks we could not open our windows and had to use air conditioning as the soot and debris in the outside air was too bad to breathe.

I bet that they still drift off into your area at nights. You just don't see them is all. If they ran there due to fires they would also foor foraqging for food etc I think. This was a doe about 5 feet tall at the shoulders I'd say from my vantage point anyhow. It must have been about 5 years olod or so due to her colroing and tail size etc. My sis is in San Diego or Sacremento or somewhere and says the fires are bad with the smoke etc in the air.

I usually have deer coming through my back yard twice a day, but I haven't seen but the one that came through with her newborn, which is surprising. The neighbors tell me that they parade through with the babies all the time in past years, so I don't know if I'm not paying attention or what.
I love to watch them. I think deer are one of the most peaceful looking animals that God created.
