how to live in a strange and high consumption city with not much money?

i will go to a strange but developed city tomorrow with my friend,we dont have much money cos we believe we can stand well there.but actually,i know we are all feel a little afraid what we should do there firstly when we reach there.thx for your tips

l may experience this problem .l want to stay in big city for my summer vacation .but l have a little money ,the firt thing l must face is where to live .the rent fee is so different .i will find a suitable one that l can afford .and second step l should make a decision what l should l do for study or worke .the study time is not much .and ,my level is not very high so l want to improve myself .but still l am afraid the safe problem.the potential security is most thing l should face and how to dispel it !!
