Tootsie Roll Pops wrappers

While eating a Tootsie Roll Pop lollipop, I remembered something I was told as a kid. A friend said if your Tootsie Pop's wrapper has a picture of an Indian shooting a bow and arrow at a star (since only a fraction of the wrappers had one,) you could take it to the store and get a free Tootsie Pop. Others said the wrappers could be redeemed for prizes. I did a little research earlier and found neither of these were true, but some stores did honor the wrappers for free lollipops.

I remember hearing that when I was younger. I also heard that if you saved the wrappers from your Dum-Dum suckers you could mail them in for stuff.

That one is true. The website www.dumdumpops.com has information about its "Save Wraps for Stuff" program.

I have never heard that before. I have never seen a wrapper with a picture of an Indian head on it either though. That would be neat as my husband is part Indian we would hold onto the wrapper!

According to the snopes.com page about this subject, only about 30% of the wrappers have the "Indian-Star" picture.

We didn't have any kind of similar rumor here in the Philippines - and we love Tootsie Rolls! It was nice of those stores to honor the wrappers for free candies, I think they did that for the kids and not because they were required to :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!
