Couple of tips from a guy who has spent a lot of time in the dark: 1. Get a small, bright flashlight (I recommend a luxeon LED, 1watt or larger, using AAA batteries) that you can have with you at all times at night. This will allow you to bring light to dark places whenever you need it. 2. Now the hard part...spend some time in the dark. I don't mean by the camp fire. I mean where there is no artificial light. You'll have your flashlight in your hand, and your husband holding your other hand to comfort you. Just sit, then walk in the dark. In about 20-30 minutes your eyes will have completely adjusted to the lack of light and you will actually be able to see fairly well. The more time you spend in the dark, the more you will like it.

I admire people who go backpacking, I am not one for it myself, I like the comforts of my own home and if I do go anywhere away from it I like the best accomodation that there is, I have too much I like to take with me to fit in a backpack.
