When controlled crying doesn't work

Thanks to all the responses for my getting pregnant while still breastfeeding post. Now I have another good question for you...When controlled crying doesn't work, what are other ways to help teach your baby how to put themselves to sleep & help them sleep through the night? My daughter is 14 months old & still wakes up a few times in the night. I know it's a bad habit but the only way I can get her to sleep is by breastfeeding her - nothing else works. Controlled crying just works her up into a hysterical mood & the crying can last hours with no reprive. Thanks in advance for your advice.
