do you think swearing in public is ok and are you offended when you hear swearing as somebody walks past you? does the common speech add to the offence? would it be any better if correct pronunciation was used? lol

I do swear a lot, but I try not to when out in public. I may say words like hell or damn or crap in public, but nothing worse. I do feel a bit offended if someone uses a harsh word in public, but worse if I have my kids and they can hear it. Recently we were at Walmart and a bunch of young guys kept swearing a lot. I had all my little children with me, so I went to them and said "Watch your mouths, there are children who can hear that" and one of the guys goes "What's wrong with that B****?" I turned back and glared to let them know I heard it. I'm not the type to take stuff like that, but my kids were with me so I had to let it go.

i think its a question of respect for others actually. maybe not even the word itself but the fact that they dare to be so rude in front of you and especially in front of small children showing no concern what so ever. i think a hell of a lot of people say the odd swear word but i think thats fine in your own home and not around children. the work is just a word...does anybody know who decided that those words were bad?

Good point, it is just a word, but those words do offend a lot of people, and I really don't want a phone call from a teacher saying "Do you know what your child called me?"

I fined it offensive. I really hate it when people use the F word every other word. I think it makes them look ignorant and sound trashy because when I am out in public I see lot of kids and it is disrespectful. Besides how much respect can you have for yourself talking that trash!

what about when your really mad? does that make a difference? when im mad i swear quite a bit but at the same time i know when not to as well, and respect that others might be offended by it. so out in public i dont but in friends company very annoyed or letting off steam i do sometimes.

I don't really have a problem with people swearing in public as long as there aren't any children present. I frown upon cursing in front of children, and have been known to tell my friends to watch their mouths if I catch them cursing when kids are around. If it's just adults in the area, though, I really don't care. If you're an adult, you should be mature enough to handle a swear word. If a person doesn't like it, they can always leave the area or ignore the person swearing.

I don't like to hear swearing whether in public or in private places. But this could bot be avoided by people who used to swear even in just little things, they don't care if what place they are in,,, it will just come out to their mouth naturally because they are used to it. Swearing in public is not a good picture. It reflects to who you are and what kind of a person are you.

sometimes its okay and sometimes isn't... For instance like when kids are around or soccer moms with children.. They get very annoyed if you curse
