I saw it in my newspaper today and saw the news on the Microsoft website too. It was a planned move and you can read it here

The present farewell etc can be found here

What do you think will happen.
I think Microsoft continues to have brilliant people and will continue to do a lot of good work. As usual there will be people digging the company etc etc!
i also hope that this gives Bill more time with his charity and other causes which will benefit a lot of people.

I saw the farewell on TV earlier, it was kind of touching. Bill Gates is a pretty good person and unlike most extremely wealthy people, he actually doing things with his money to HELP other people.
I don't think that this will impact Microsoft too much though... for a while now he has had other people leading projects while he was basically just the big cheese of the HQ :)
Bill Gates or no Bill Gates, Vista will still always have problems :P

I can't stand windows and although Bill Gates is cool I hope he was the one that made Windows so sucky cause seriously they need someone to get in there and FIX THIS THING! Windows Vista Sucks, that's why I use XP, I wish I could use Linux though...

I'm a Linux user myself and proud of it. Once you get the hang of using Linux you will have amazing computer experiences. The only thing that I don't like about Linux is the lack of software support that I use all the time for my music recording and web design (although there are some VERY good open source programs for both in Linux).
I used Windows Vista for about 2 weeks before switching back to XP.
I still prefer Linux because of its speed, easy ability to customize it to how I want it to look, and of course, it's free and so is the majority of software for it :)

It is very sad that Bill Gates is leaving Microsoft, and he seems to be a very kind, smart person who has done a lot for Microsoft, and I do think the Microsoft will continue to do good, but I think it will take a while to get used to not having Bill Gates there anymore.
