I am looking to go to las vegas once I finish school at the end of this summer. I was wondering if anyone has been before and if they had any tips on how to make the trip cheaper?

If you are just one or two people, it may be cheaper to fly than to drive, they have many cheap fares from most major cities. If your schedule is flexible, it is a definite saving if you can be there between Sunday and Thursday, most people that works tend to fly in on Friday evening and leave on Sunday evening, so lodging can be twice if not three time as expensive, shows are usually sold out and discounts are hard to come by, on weekday, there are a couple of outlets that sell unsold tickets at half price. Casino also have lower table limit when they are not as busy, and higher when all the table are filled to capacity, they want to take as much money from you in as short a time as they can. If service and luxury is not a big concert, the older the hotel, the cheaper the rate, this last trip we were there, we stayed the first night at the Rivera for $27, we weren't going to be there till after 10pm, so it's just a place to sleep. Downtown hotels are usually cheaper than the new ones on the strip. So decide what you want, cheap vs economy vs modest vs hell it's Vegas, get the best and still cheaper than Hawaii or New York.

Making a Vegas trip is difficult by nature. However, there are some things you can do to minimize the damage done to your bank account. Depending on where you are traveling from, driving may actually be cheaper than flying, even with the high gas prices. I have traveled both from Colorado and drove to Vegas back in March and with 3 of us it was cheaper to drive than fly. This way you have your own transportation when needed. If you are flying then when you land they have shuttles that will take you to where ever you need to go for $6 one way. Or you could just take a taxi and split it among the members of your party. It was about $13 to go from the Paris to the airport and there were 4 of us in the taxi. Not bad. As far as hotel accommodations, I would check place like Vegas.com or another site that lists a bunch of hotels and their prices so you can compare them. Also if you want a cheap hotel then make sure you go during the middle of the week and not the weekend. The cost of weekday evenings are SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper than the cost of weekend evenings. I would recommend anything in the middle of the strip. If you intend on gambling then I would say pre-determine how much you want to gamble per day and put the money in envelopes for each day and make sure you only open the envelope on that specific day. This way you won't lose all of your money in one night. There are plenty of places to eat on the strip or on Fremont St. (Old Downtown). The cheapest food you will find is probably on Fremont St. You can take a taxi or a bus to go there. You could also just take some assorted snack items and breakfast bars with you too and keep them in your hotel. Food on the strip is ok priced to uber expensive. There are some brand name fast food restaurants but they up the prices there too. If you're not driving and just don't want to drive your own car around Vegas I would recommend t he double decker shuttle. It's 5 dollars a day (meaning 24 hours valid) and you can go anywhere on the strip or Fremont St. If you want cheap cheap, then you you're going to want to stay on Fremont St. They have older casinos with lower limit tables, cheaper food, and it all condensed into a few blocks.
