Just had to sit my way through a major thunderstorm and a loss of power. It was pitch black here and I had to fumble my way through my apartment. Do you guys keep a flashlight or candles handy for just such an occassion. I don't, Wal-Mart here I come

I live in an area with earthquakes. People in this state learn at an early age to be prepared for earthquakes. Yes, I realize this doesn't mean everyone is ready, but most people remember the last earthquake and the panic when people couldn't get money at the little machines at the bank.

Interesting inked, the same thing happened to us tonight. We had a whopper of a storm. Being in a new home and having recently unpacked, it is not sealed in our minds where things are locatd. Some boxes aren't even unpacked as yet! I found candles, but no matches. We finally used the thingy with which hubby lights the grill! He thought there were flashlights in the garage, but there was no safe way to navigate that. I have NEVER seen a garage so dark. The garage is full of half-empty boxes, things we don't know what to do with, broken down boxes awaiting a trip to the recyc center and of course normal garage items...none of which are on shelves as yet. We decided that to tarry into the garage would be taking our life into our hands! Ha!

Another good idea too is if you have a portable radio, keep batteries on hand for this as well in case you need to listen to the news. You can also feel rather isolated too when the power goes off at night ...I find I can't go to bed or even attempt sleep, so I listen to the radio. How silly am I...?

lol... well yeah, we keep candles and flashlights here for that kind of situation. Especially during thunderstorms, we always expect for the powers to be off at that time.

Hi inked4life! Yes, I do keep a flashlight and candles for such occasions that the power/electricity will be cut/canceled due to thunderstorms. I really don't like the feeling of being in total darkness. Nothing to do and nothing to see. Yikes! Take care and God bless!

We have to here in the panhandle I kepp the flash light out so if we lose power i can find the oil lamp and candles. When we had the tornado last year the power was out for 4 days we had to make the morning coffee on the BBQ grill. Now thats fun, 1 hour just for a cup of joe.

I always have a flashlight handy incase there is ever a problem with the lights in my apartment. 5 years ago when North America has a massive blackout, this was really handy. I am glad I had it.

I love candles so I always have them all over my house. Plus I always keep a large flashlight in my closet for emergencys. I have two kids and if you dont have light they will just panic.

We keep flashlights and candles handy in case the power goes out, while we are awake at night. I'm not a huge fan of the dark, so I make sure I have them handy, just in case. I will use my cell phone to light my way til I get to a flashlight. Now with the thunderstorms, send them my way. Today we somehow missed a gusher, but according to the map it should have hit us. It hit the city right next to us, as I was on my way to the store. It came down so hard and fast, I actually had to pull over until it calmed down for me to see. Our power went out but that was about it.

Hello inked. I do have a bunch of flashlights but when the power goes out I can never find them! Last time the power went out I had to go out to the car to get a flashlight (luckily hubby keeps one in the trunk of his car).

We have quite allot of power cuts here in the winter months, when bad weather fells trees into cables. I normally keep a wind up lantern by the front door where I can find it by touch, then I can use that to locate candles etc. I'm looking to where it should be now though, and of course it's missing! Heaven knows where that has been shifted to, but in the summer I don't suppose we'll have any need for it.

Flashlights in a couple of rooms. Candles in nearly every room although mostly because I like the smell, though they do come in handy when the power goes out. A few years ago my husband bought me a light for reading during storms, it looks stupid but works great for more than just reading. Straps to the head and is really bright.

Yes. I have a candle and a flashlight here where I work for such events. It happens here all of the time when a storm comes through. Our power went out this evening also for about five minutes and then came back on. It was dark in here also. We have more3 storms right now and more coming for the rest of the day also. I hope the power stays on long enough for me to get my work done though.

I always keep candles out. Truth be told it's just because I like candles and not for situations like that. We also have old lanterns around the house because my parents like the way they look. They have come in handy when the power has gone out. The power station is right across the road and it used to go out quite a bit.
