People here in my country, especially those living near the place where a passenger ship was capsized a week ago that killed many passengers, do not want to eat fish these days. For fear that the fish caught in the area have eaten human flesh.
So the health department issued an statement saying that fishes from the place is safe for human consumption since fish don't eat dead bodies. The statement further explained that small fish only eat plants while big fish eat the smaller ones.
Fish is essential for a balanced diet, but I would still refrain from eating salt water fish. I guess I just can't eat those that were caught near the area of the sunken ship.
How about you, would you eat the fish?

DOH has announced that fishes around the area where the ship has capsized should not be eaten.. a pesticide for pineapple that was to be shifted for Del Monte Philippines was to be delivered in Cebu was carried by the ship so the water now is contaminated by the said pesticide and it is very dangerous to the health of people this can cause problems in our nervous system..any forms of exposure to this kind of chemical is dangerous that is why retrieval operations were stopped for fear that the divers could get sick due to the said pesticide..So for safety purposes DO NOT EAT THE FISHES AROUND ROMBLON AREAS AND ESPECIALLY NEAR THE CAPSIZED SHIP

aside from the pestiscide issue and oil spill probability, i still wouldn't eat fish and squids(for now) even if DOH says it's safe.I live far from the area, I'm from Mindanao, but just seeing the corpse, etc. turned my fish appetite from low to zero. The fact that fish travels(to who knows where) and that they also might eat some *particles*(dunno what term to use) from the site just couldn't escape my mind...anyway, I'm not discouraging others though, I'm just gonna say pass for now when it's fish on the table.

Hi choybel, yup...squids too! I like sea foods but I guess it's pass for me at this moment. The chemical is endosulfan. I wouldn't want to eat them for now...hehehe. Have a great day!

Well the latest news I heard is that all fishing activities in that area is banned not because of the fish eating human flesh but the chemicals that is spilling out may contaminate the waters as well as the fish too. That is why all fishing activities in that area is suspended until further notice. Too bad for the local fishermen there as these are their min livelihood. I guess they have to fish further out of the place where the ship has capsized.

Yup, I just watched that in the news awhile ago too. Any activity in that area was put on hold. Too bad for the fishermen too. I just hope the government will provide them alternative livelihood while they could not fish yet.

Yeah, we eat fish since we are far from that place. However, I have seen in the news that the reason why it is dangerous to eat fish on that place is because the ship has a poisonous chemical cargo, that is why they advice to refrain from eating fish. But if I were asked, I will refrain eating also, since it will not harm me much than accepting the risk.

Exactly, better refrain than be sorry later. But even without the chemical substance that could have possibly contaminated the area, I wouldn't eat the fish either. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

If i were you, i would eat the fish whereever the thre fish was caught. In my opinion, you have no need worryng the risk of getting ill or concerning other other moral circses because there is one thing you must admit that the substance that make all kinds of animals and creatures in our earth recycle in eath body all the times. So every second you are not the same you at all. Thank you for bringing forward this serious topic so that so that i have a bran-new thnking!

There is a season in which in country we all will cook fish and eat. Those fishes are really in good in taste and those have been taken from one of the place which is meant for the fishes only and that place is neat and clean and we also keep it clean also. so there is no reason not to ear fish.

hi nikecold, thanks for sharing. Of course, you could eat those fish that come from clean source. But I bet you would want to eat fish from a contaminated source. You wouldn't, right?
Have a great day!
