Do you really believe the car ads from the dealerships?

Once again I hear one of those silly ads on the radio or see it on tv from a car dealership about how if they can't beat the price from a competitor on a car by $500 they'll GIVE you $10,000 or GIVE you the car or some other nonsense.
Geez.....do these car dealerships really think we (the consumer) believe that?? I don't believe they're going to give me the car of money. I think they're just trying to get you in the door so you'll buy from them.
What do you think?

Of course it's a sales tactic to get you in the door and no one is going to get a free car out of them. I believe the competitor's offer has to be the exact same offer the dealership is giving to you and that includes so many options, fees, trade in value and financing so it's almost impossible to have a matching better deal with someone else. All of these dealerships have so many ways of moving money around in the transaction, including the value of your trade in, the interest rate for financing or the amount of cash they require upfront.
