Are you registered on the National Do-Not-Call list?

Here is the website to add your home and cell numbers if you haven't already. I was responding to a discussion about somebody who was woken up at 8 AM by a telemarketer!! I am so sick of this type of crap! I also don't think it's fair for telemarketers to call cells, as if we want to intercept advertising while we are out and about. I also don't want them wasting my minutes.
Are you already using this service, and will you if you haven't already? I'm off to check myself, I heard that you drop off after a year and have to reregister. I will update here whether this is actually true or not.

I was just reading about that. Apparently we will have it available here in Canada at the end of September. It said that we would need to re-register at the end of 3 years and I"m really wanting for it to start because I will be the first one on line!
I"m tired of all the telemarketing calls.

LOL! I get the feeling that a lot of mine come from that whole 'selling to a third party' types of things, such as information that other companies get from our bank, mortgage company, maybe from my daughter's preschool, ballet studio, because we have a gym membership, Costco membership, etc etc. I don't like it but I figure that if I hang up enough on people, eventually they will get discouraged.

I am on the list, but I still occasionally get calls from soliciters. I just remind them that I am on that list and they have to acknowledge me by removing my name from their list. I'm not sure if you have to re-register. I honestly thought that once you were on it that was it, but I could be wrong. I'd be interested in knowing if that's true or not.

Yes, I am. If they call you after 31 days of being on this list then you can sue.

Most of the places do seem to take it pretty seriously. I used to get calls from the LA Times constantly. One time they started calling prior to 8 AM on a Saturday. By the 4th call, I gave the phone to my hubby and he ripped them a new one. I had an infant at the time and every time the phone rang, it woke her up again.

Yes I get this all the time and what a pain i the neck. I have caller I.D. and leave the ringers off because of this. It just seems that when one call they hang up and another one comes through. I am glad you gave us that website for I think I'm going to do just that. What really get's me mad is it can be 9pm-9:30pm here at my time and they be 7pm-7:30pm and there calling me. I don't know how many times I have picked up the phone said "hello?" and when I know that it's an actual person and not an answering bot I will be very mean with them. I honestly hope this website you gave us helps and cuts down on alot of the 50 something stupid calls I recieve all hours of the day.

You're very welcome! I use my caller ID too to track calls but some of the garbage has stopped because I no longer have to be a secretary and field all my older daughter's calls. LOL! When she turned 18 she started getting telemarketer calls and a bunch from colleges but now that she's moved, they aren't calling here any more.
If it's a recording of any type, I hang up IMMEDIATELY unless it's my kids' school. I am not going to 'hold the line' to hear about anything somebody is trying to sell me.

Hey mommyboo. Yup, I was the one awakened by the telemarketer. I am still seething! Ha! I had our previous phone number at the home from which we recently moved on the National Do-Not -Call Registry. However, I have been so busy unpacking boxes and getting settled in that I had not taken the time to register our phone number at the new place. Believe me, after I calmed down this morning I immediately went online and registered our new number. I too had read somewhere that registering isn't a forever thing and that one has to go back and register again after a certain period of time. I will certainly keep a close watch and register frequently!

In one of my comments to somebody's response, I listed another link (which didn't link properly, you might have to c&p it into your browser) where you can go check when you registered and if it is still current and valid. I checked both of mine to make sure. I think I have registered my husband's cell phone also. It takes literally 30 seconds, you fill in your numbers and your email and then you will receive an email right away with the date you registered and if it is current.

I have been on the national do not call list for about 5 years now. I don't get political or fund raiser calls at all any more. It has been great - was getting sometimes 10 or more a day.
I still get calls from the survey sites I am a member of with no problems too.
I have also heard you can now register cell phone number with it too now - but not sure on that because I don't have a cell phone. Anyone have any experience with that?
The state I live in takes registering with the do not call list very seriously too - the State Attonery General has levied hefty fines for those who call when they weren't supposed to.

I have registered my cell number and I do not receive telmarketing or other calls on my cell. I need to see if I can make sure my number is totally unlisted though, or maybe blocked because I don't appreciate getting wrong numbers on my cell either. It would be less annoying if these wrong numbers were not often times someone yelling in spanish. I do not speak any spanish so why somebody speaking only spanish would have my number I have no idea. I have had the same number for several years, long enough that nobody else would have had it recently.

When i registered with my phone company for my land line. I was asked by them if i wanted to go on what they call a preferences list. Which means that no telemarketer will call me. I thought this was a great idea so of course took up the offer.

Soon there will be a NO Junk Mail list also, and I do plan to register!

As an update to my post here, I actually reported a company which was calling me multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day. I received a mailing showing that my complaint had been received and a copy of the information I provided them with online. I have not heard from this company since, and I really do hope they received a big fat fine for not complying with my number being on the do-not-call list!
