I really want to live near the ocean along the east coast of the US. I am looking into Virgina, North Carolina, South Carolina but don't know what places are safe for raising a child, good job opporunites, shopping, places to see. I would like to move someplace that is historic as well. Any suggestions or anybody live someplace really nice that is a great place to reside?

i think that NC and VA are absolutly beautiful... SC on the other hand is extremely boring i live in savannah ga and go to SC often.. lots of family there.. the best place in SC however is charlston very historical... Savannah is very historical as well guess it depends on what type of historical places u r interested in..Savannah: downtown is beautifull.. and shopping is great.... we also host the big st patricks day parade.. big event here.. and tybee is a nice beach

Savannah does have a high crime rate but in counties outside ofsavannah like effingham no... effingham county is only a 20 to 30min drive to savannah and thats when the traffice is bad.. and yes there is low income housing and apts.

I actually live in Virginia and the city I live in is actually more in north-western VA, so not close to the shore or beach as you mentioned. I've lived here all my life so for me I would like to explore other places but for people that aren't from here I can see why they would find it so appealing. Also look up cities on Yahoo and they will give you all the demographics of a city. Population, median household income etc. I've found it pretty easy to get assistance in VA if you need it as far as low income housing etc. My sister in law lives in NC and says that it's harder to get assistance there but I've never lived there so I really wouldn't know. I know that Yahoo recently did the top 10 places in the US to live as far as job opportunites and such and Raleigh NC was among them. May be worth looking into.
