Have you ever suffered from "diet depression"?

I lost over 100 pounds a few years ago, and in the last year I've gotten kind of lazy. I've gained back about 20 pounds through bad eating habits and not exercising. So I decided to get back on the horse, so to speak, and give it another go. I know what I need to do, and I'm going to do it. I'd like to lose another 50 pounds or so to get to my goal.
But today, I am extremely cranky! Everyone is pissing me off. I'm getting into arguments on MyLot. lol. I'm yelling at my poor son, who I have to say is being naughty but my reaction to it is unusual. I think I'm going through withdrawal or something. I went through the cupboards and threw out everything that wasn't good for us, so I'm on lean meats and vegetables and whole grains. Very little in the way of sugar, and I think my body's trying to detox. But it's hard!
Does anyone ever suffer the same type of thing where you go on a diet and get cranky? What do you do to remedy this?

I'm not having too much of a problem with my diet but I have been off the wagon lately about the gym. I missed about 4 days due to a very busy week last week and then I didn't go yesterday or today. To embarrass myself further, one of the reasons I decided to stay home today was because I was HERE at mylot. LOL! I did go for two days - Wed and Thurs but my intention was go to today because I skipped Friday. Bah. If I'm cranky, it might be hormonal =)

Yes, I too go through stuff like this when I straighten up my eating habits. But I am going through something lately that kinda scares me...not in a bad way but in a bad way for my weight that I alreayd lost. I know there is a mental connection between weight and food...well, usually when the weather is warm I am fine I can eat minimally and be satisfied...thought I had everything under control like I did for the last 2 years or so....well the weather is hot and humid, but I am totally having winter eating binges or cravings that drive me mad. I even have started that craving thing where you just cannot quench it...i know it is a mental thing, but still...I do not want to go back to the way I ate before.
I doubt my post helped you but it helped me a little to get it out and good for you to catch yourself before you felt totally out of control. ANd it will pass. I remember when I quit smoking last fall....my body rejected the fact I wanted to quit and seized up on me...I mean muscles aching in my shoulders and I was horrible to be around. So I can relate definitely about the crankiness.
Good luck with getting back on track and remember you lost 100 pounds you can lose another 50.

I'm glad you're here. I feel that we need a support system when we feel these types of cravings and binges coming on. Talking to someone can really help. I go to the weight loss boards at About.com and the people there helped me tremendously, and I in turn was able to help others.
You might want to stock your cupboards with low calorie alternatives, that way when you feel a binge coming on you can't do much damage. My old trick was canned green beans and/or pickles. There aren't a whole lot of calories in either, so I can pretty much snack at will. And I never used to keep stuff in the house that I knew would be a trigger for me. I'm a lot more likely to talk myself out of a bad decision if I have to go get in the car and drive to town to get what I think I'm craving.
If you want to discuss it further, I'm here. Maybe we can help each other.
