We moved at the beginning of June and out new place has harder water than our old one did. I have tried 5 different shampoos and conditioners and my hair is getting unbelievably dry. I have never had this problem before. Any suggestions? Side not: what is the best dishwasher and laundry detergents for hard water?

The best thing to do for the water system is to get a water softener or filter system added. As for conditioners, have you tried a leave in conditioner? They usually work well and it also works well to not rinse all of the conditioner out of your hair. You may want to try a heavy butter, such as shea butter or cocoa butter applied directly to your hair at night before you go to bed. They are awesome natural moisturizers, and while not cheap, work on every part of the body.

Problem is we live in an apartment complex, so we get city water and there is no way to treat it. I haven't tried leave in conditioners. They may work now, in the past I have found them to be so heavy and just make my hair greasy. I wonder if the VO5 hot oil stuff would work. I used that all the time when I would process my hair.

Infusium works great. Also, you can now buy filters and such that will go right on your faucet, this may help.
