Hey folks sing a long...hehe Okay how many of you folks are getting tons of a new kind of scam/spam mail? Everyday when I check my emails I'm getting tons of emails of "ACTORS WANTED" "EXTRAS NEEDED"? I mean come on, do these yahoos expect us to fall for this crap? None could be the remotest bit legitimate. I was involved with the acting field myself and was a Drama Major in College...I also attended the Stella Adler Acting Studio...The only way us acting folks could find out about cast calls, that is if one didn't have an agent or was a SAG member yet (Screen Actors Guild) was to look at legitimate casting calls that were featured in a newspaper like Backstage, or even Variety. So have any of you gotten these annoying emails?...Have you ever yearned to be an extra in a show or movie....do ya wanna be in pictures??...heehee

I had two friends that did extra work here in montreal, it was an agency they went through and they got paid even when not picked that is all I know.

oh gosh now, montreal is a favourite film site for many american movies, apparently is it cheaper from them to come up here, to film, the only actual movie that was widely publicized that I can remember was snake eyes with nicholas cage, that was filmed here but my friends were doing that work long before that film came out. many movies you are watching in the states the scenery is actually from montreal or toronto or vancover here in canada.

Was that the time they were doing a movie in your area? I am thinking it was your discussion where there was to be a film crew and they told no one could leave their homes after a certain time...that was you, right?

I know winterose...another favorite place to film in Canada is British Columbia--a few of my favorite movies were filmed there...like Alaska (supposed to be Alaska but wasnt') ...think even Legends of the Fall which was supposed to be Montana but also filmed in Canada. It might not only be the cost factor involved, but I imagine there's a lot more "untamed" wilderness areas in Canada than here in the US

No, I don't get any emails stating "actors wanted". How disappointing huh. They must have your name from some special list. I get plenty of other junk mails wanting me for all kinds of other stuff though. Anyone who has been on the Internet for awhile hopefully knows better than to believe these emails. So why are so many generated. Must be someone out there who responding. Oh, and I never wanted to be even an extra - extreme shyness when I was younger and probably too much effort to try to get onto a show even as an extra for me now. If someone offered it to me, I wouldn't turn it down though.

I've gotten a few of them myself, I haven't really paid attention to them though. I really don't waste my time with any email I get unless i'm actually expecting it. There is too much spam/scam out there & in some cases the emails aren't even worth the risk to open them to check if whatever it is, is actually legitimate as some can carry viruses, heck. Even trojans! I've always been interested in acting & I do love to be the center of attention. I wouldn't really want to be known world-wide though. It takes the fun out of meeting people if everyone already knows who you are, eh? I have considered & stll even do to this day consider it as as i've been told that I have the face for it, and also i've been told that i'm a great actor. I haven't did any schooling or anything for it though but I think it would be interesting to portay various roles. Especially since our time in this world is very short & realistically you would never be able to explore all the various careers to their full potential. You just have to settle with one, andddd. I don't really want to do that. My only option would actually be acting, aha. I do want to be a marketing major & own a business or two of my own so I do know what I want to do, but I still love the thought of exploring all different sorts of careers. Living life through everyones point of view would be fun.

The one thing I loved doing during the days I did act was to do roles that were so opposite of me. I was actually a very shy person, but acting was like great therapy for me. I would forget my shyness and become the character I was playing

Depends on the production, and what category you're in. "General extras" (crowd scenes, etc.) usually only get paid minimum wage.

i never received such emails... yet. but if ever i will, i'd smile a little for awhile and think "atleast, i got an offer even in a joke!". anyway, i don't know if i will look good in pictures. it's a good opportunity to be extras in films but i think i will be too shy to be in it. anne

I wouldn't mind being an extra...most times all an extra does is to be in crowd scenes or all those people you see walking on a sidewalk as "background' for the main stars--think I might be more nervous near the "stars" though..hehe

Yeah I have been getting tons of them as well every day. I have never even opened one so I do not know if they are saying you to have to pay a fee or something but I am sure there will be cash for them in it somewhere.

Yeah, they probably do want some kind of fee involved. A legit cast call wouldn't ask for money..you just would go and audition

To be honest, I really don't think he would make the cut. He's super shy around other people even thou he is a total ham for me whenever he sees the camera pointed at him.

Hi pye, no, I have never received any such emails, thankfully. I used to want to be in the acting field when I was younger though the dream never became a reality. My husband had the opportunity to be an extra once. We had gone to one of our favorite spots one day, a mini beach you might say, and there was a crew shooting a made for TV movie (it ended up being on CBS many years ago). My husband went down the stairs so he could watch it being made while I stayed around the parking lot as we had our cat with us (what can I say, we took him everywhere with us LOL) and I didn't want to take a chance going with my husband in case our cat got scared of all the commotion. When my husband came back he told me they offered for him to be an extra in the movie, but he turned it down. Why? I think it was because he had to work the days they wanted him there and since he made more with his job than being an extra he turned it down. It used to make me wonder if this could have been his start at being a movie star. LOL

Well... I have been in pictures. Back a couple lifetimes ago when I lived in Vancouver (Hollywood North) I worked as an extra for many years. Besides having an agent, I could pick up a weekly list put out by the city, of all the productions happening in town, complete with contact information... As an interesting aside, I worked on a TV movie called "Christmas on Division Street" and when I moved back to Ontario in 1995, I ended up buying a house on Division Street in Guelph. I also worked on another movie called "Harmony Cats" and just before Christmas last year, as some of you know, my friend's cat "Harmony" decided to move in with me.

Oh, she still owns me... I was apprehensive that she might move back down the road now that my friend's daughter got her own place and took her cat with her. But she still loves me, though she's developed the bad habit of going out at night and carousing until the wee hours of the morning, then waking me up to get back in. At least she comes home.

I get eight or ten of them a day and ignore them all except for deleting them. I have no desire or need to embarrass myself trying to act or sing. I like real life drama in very small doses, there is so little that is worthy of drama now. Life goes on and rather than being caught up in the moment and creating more drama I prefer to be a part of the solution.

I usually am the the leading lady in my own movie and I can only act like a movie star in my own dreams but I wouldn't dare to be in any movie/picture. i would be tongue tied if ever. i wouldn't be able to deliver my lines or even if I would just be an extra, i might not be able to even face the camera. haha..I am really very shy infront the camera. I will froze for sure! Take care and God bless!

I've never had such an invitation! Guess no one wants me for that! I have a niece who is a location scout and has worked on Hollywood films, TV movies and commercials. My sister and her other daughter have been extras several times, but so far have always wound up on the cutting room floor, so we have never seen them in a take. They really enjoyed it though. Got to see some big name stars and watch how movies, etc. are made. Plus get paid for it too!

My ISP catches most of my spam mail and I don't really pay much attention to it. I go to my spam folder when I see there is spam there and make sure there is no mail in there that got mixed up and put in the wrong folder and then get rid of my spam. I have never really wanted to be an actress or an extra in a movie or show. In our city when they need extra's for any shooting they do here it is on our local news telling all about it and where to go and at what time but I have never had emails sent to me about it.

Hi Pye-it was only yesterday (saturday 27th) that I have had my computer for a week but am with an insurance company called the GEEK SQUAD I rang them as it was playing up-on the other end of the phone they took over the screen of my computer to see what was on it and there were 65 games that had downloaded themselves and also I had an infection!! At the time I was on Norton anti-spyware but the geek squad took that off and put the whole Mcfee anti_spyware on it took three hours for them to sort it out but I am glad that that I can call them 24/7 to sort any probs out for me- Yes in answer to your question I have had these emails but have deleted them-prob with me is that I would love to be a extra in a show or movie-but had my 5mins of fame about 10yrs ago in the Big Breakfast show-bright blessings my friend littleowl

Yeah I have gotten those emails. Plenty annoying! It would be kind of cool to be an extra though. I heard about a real one once and called them and stuff but I didn't get through to anyone. I heard back but by then they had already done the shoot. I don't know if acting is for me though. I mean I love to roleplay and act for fun but I hate all the makeup and goop that a lot of actors have to use. I hate that kind of stuff anyway so I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

Aww--but that's the fun part of acting...to get into makeup and wear costumes and pretend to be someone else, a different character completely from the way you really are...used to love doing it myself
