I had a package of tofu with soya sauce and it was so delicious,
but regular tofu has no taste,
how do you get tofu to have taste,
somebody told me added to the food you are cooking and it would taste like it, I didn't find that it did,
somebody else told me that to use tofu with a bit of hamburger meat and it would save on the cost for your hamburger bill and still taste like it, this is good when you are making a spaghetti sauce,
I still didn't find it tasted like hamburger meat,
so what am I doing wrong,
and what are some good ways to use tofu?

I am so happy to have found this discussion.
I've been wanting to try tofu for awhile now, but where exactly is it located in the grocery store?
Everytime I ask an employee they look more clueless than I am. So, I just gave up.
I have seen some interesting looking receipes in a few food magazines that include tofu.

tofu tastes like tofu until it really picks up flavors from other foods, soy sauce helps a lot I think, and strong flavored veggies like tomatoes and onions and green peppers flavor it veryh nicely I think. It will never taste like hamburger or other meats, it will just taste like tofu until it absorbs veggie
flavors. try wwe. cook.com and ask for recipes using tofu and you will thousands litterally.

It's still a mystery to me too, winterose. Everyone says it picks up the flavor of whatever you're cooking, but I'm not so sure. I've been meaning to get a good tofu cookbook. Perhaps now is the time.

looks like a brick of cheese but taste rubbery with really no taste, but when you added to food it takes on that flavor, it is very healthy and served in the east a lot.

Hi
Where I live we have different flavors of tofu, we have things like Berry and things like that, but what I do, and you can use yougurt instead of tofu if you don't like tofu, is I make a drink in the morning called a power drink....
here is what I do...
1 table spoon of tofu, usually plain (or a single serving of yougurt, flavored is good as well)
1 cup of rice milk
1 banana (or 4 small strawberries)
Place all in blender, mix well..
Drink
Very yummy and gives you the energy you need for the morning...

now that is something I would like to know. I bought 2 packs of it so I could get my protein without eatng the meat and it said it was healthy so I wanted to try it. I didn't really like it much I didn't add it to meat or anything but I did add it to salads and stir-frys. So I would also love to read a few suggestions so maybe I can give it another try with better results.

I will also be checking them out and using some of the recipes and tips they provided. Maybe I can even slip some to my family without them noticing much..if it is flavored just right.

Hi
Tofu tends to take on the flavor that it is mixed with.
I often mash it up, add finely diced
celery, onion, green pepper along with a
dash of garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
I mix it up with mayo and serve it in whole grain pita
pockets with shredded lettuce and thin tomato slices.
Serve it along with a chilled glass of white and it's
an elegant lunch without the price or bother on a hot day.

LOL--good luck! I never had luck with tofu either...though it tasted like..uh, well you get the idea..also discovered the hard way that I'm soy intolerant...just as some have lactose intolerance I can't have anything soy anyway.
I did find some recipe sites that might help you though and give you ideas

I was recommended tofu at a time when things were bad and I was looking for cheap food.
I never took to it because I doubted its nutrition and it sounded like something somebody was trying to make popular because it was cheap.
Try adding some of the Chinese sauces like Black Bean or oyster sauce or maybe use a lot of gravy.
I'm not much of a help in this because if something doesn't taste good by itself, you're imposing taste, lets put it that way, by trying to give it taste.
Good Luck !

Tofu is usually used for Chinese dishes, so you might want to look up some Chinese recipes. And adding soya sauce will definitely make tofu taste great. :) Deep fry your tofu and let it simmer in soya sauce! Yum! That's the simplest way to eat it.. Or you can deep fry your tofu and prepare a sweet-vinegar dipping sauce to go with it. If you want something healthier, maybe you can try steaming it with fish. Fish and tofu always works well for me.
