I think it's not a problem at all and it's logical. Because top discussion here means the discussion that got most response in the shortest time. It's just the way of measuring how popular a discussion is. So, the most popular discussion is usually those discussion that suits most people and easy to be comprehended. The easier discussion, most of the time tends to be the hotter discussion.

I think also the reason for this is that most top discussions are about day to day experiences and the more common the experience shared is, the more there are people who can relate to that experience. There are many reasons why people post these topics instead of a more sensitive or "deep" topics. Some of them are to rant about an annoying or disappointing thing that recently happened in their lives. Some are also to express the happiness they feel from something good that happened, others ask for advices while others just want to share their experiences. These things mostly get users attentions and many people can relate to them.

I am relatively new to mylot also and am here with a very open mind. I joined Mylot earlier but was only able to become active last week and i do enjoy it very much here.
The postings need not necessarily have to be about "deep" discussions for it to allow interraction between mylot members. And I do think that it is very natural to keep the price at an affordable rate for more people to buy into the lighter discussion topics ;)
A heavy topic , for example, like the implications of new discoveries by the ongoing mars probe might be very exciting to a few space enthusiasts but can be totally ignored by the more mainstream contributors.
This does not necessarily mean that there are not many deep thinkers in the mylot community. Perhaps it is just the way members like to scan for interesting topics while marking new friends who might like to move on to more specific discussions on topics of mutual interests.
I personally want to know if there are other renewable energy enthusiasts who are keen on exploring solutions to powering my new self sufficient home.
And so I think we have a very healthy community of mylotters here who can offer a wide range of interesting topics to share and experience together.

Well, I guess it's better if it's a more shallow topic since more people will be able to respond to that discussion. As top discussions are determined by how many members respond to that discussion, a topic that any lay person can reply to should make it easier to hit high numbers in terms of responses. Imagine if you started a topic on something deep that most other members don't know a thing about, this would most likely make other mylot members stay away and thus you get a low response for your discussion. Thus, deep discussions will not usually make it to be a top discussion. I hope my explanation makes sense.
