This is a good question you are asking. When you talk about bat winning the battle over ball, its always the case in sub continent pitches. High scoring matches, no purchase for the bowlers in the wicket has been the case always. The standard of pitches here has gone down. But nowadays with the advent of T20 entertainment value has increased. So administrators make placid tracks. True bowlers are the one's who suffer the lot. And regarding Wasim ji's comments Ian Chappell informed that Symonds once told him the bats now are much stronger than before and the willow is thick and gives more power to the shots but they last longer. Considering the pay current generation players get, they can afford any number of bats. But Pitches must be standardised according to the format of the game. YOu can have a dust bowl and play T20 (Deccan chargers - Knight riders game at Kolkata). Same time you can't give a totally flat deck for Test cricket, it will bore you. So standards must be set and pitches be made accordingly.
