I just read an articlr today saying the a major airline company is making overweight people pay for two seats instead of one. What do you have to say about it?

I was watching a show the other day about problems that the air lines were having and there was a large gentleman on. They charged him for 2 seats cause of his size. I thought it was a little up fair. Now a person size will determine how much they pay when traveling on a plane or train. That is really something. I would say that they should make the seats bigger for all sizes. Not just thin or medium built people. It's not fair.

I imagine it would be very uncomfortable (especially on a long haul flight) to be sitting next to someone who was overflowing into your seat. I think if a person can't be comfortably restrained in their own seat without impinging on another's space, they should definitely have to pay for the second seat. It sounds mean, but we have to pay for excess baggage if we wish to carry heavy things - and a very large person means the plane has to take on more fuel. Sounds silly, but it's true.

From what I heard a while ago this only applies to very overweight people who can't fit comfortably in a single seat. Since they're forced to use two seats because of their size I don't see a problem with charging them for both of them. The airlines are selling seats on the plane, it's not like you can stand like people do on the subway.

ok, I'm not a thin person- but my seatbelt buckles and I can sit comfortbally without spilling into the other passengars seat. But I have had to suffer through a 2 hour flight next to a larger person and let me tell you- it was agony. The person couldn't have been comfortable either it looked like his seatbelt was cutting off circulation. I think that if you are taking up more space than one seat allows for then yes- you should pay more. Unless the airlines stop being so cheap sometime soon and decide to accomodate with larger seats. Its doubtful though.
