What name would you give your next baby?

For you guys who will soon have a baby or those who are planning, what name would you give your next baby? As for me, I would rather choose something that has religious significance. Sadly, some parents don't care if their children's names have meaning at all. As long as they sound good, they go for those. Other parents would simply combine their names and presto, the child's name is formed. Would you do the same thing in naming your kids? what name would you give your next baby and why?

I am not having another baby but I had a name chosen if I had a boy, and I had a girl 4 years ago =) If I had a boy his name would be Travis. I don't really look at religious significance although meanings could come into play as long as I liked the name already and wasn't just choosing it based on meaning. There are some wonderful meanings but the names aren't always that great. As far as why I'd choose this name, I've always liked it. My best friend's youngest son is Travis, so now I like it even more.

I like the sound of Travis too. Well, if it turns out to be a girl, I guess you had better prepare a name for her too.

The next name I would have for my next child if a girl is Aaliyah, a Hebrew name meaning to travel. I love it because I do love to travel, too. If it's going to be a boy, his name is I think something Japanese. My first daughter is named after a Japanese champion swimmer/diver Chiyomi. It means "Dream". I am sick of the Western influenced name for us Filipinos and also did not like my folks named after the name almanac by their Spanish roots.

Yes, I see your point, too much of something can be tiring. It's time to try something new or unusual.

I don't plan to have any more children, but can say that I agree that when naming our children we should consider the impact that bearing that name will have on the rest of their lives. When choosing names for our children, my husband and I took a great deal of time. When we found names we liked (all of our children were named after family and very close family friends) we looked up the meaning and discussed whether or not we felt our children would like the names when they got older. I sometimes feel people take naming their children too lightly and don't put enough emphasis on how important it is. To some it even seems to be a game. My children have classmates whose names are so strange, difficult to pronounce and almost impossible to spell. Some have said their parents told them they just picked out letters, put them together and voila, there was the child's name. It's really a shame.

Hi, Roni. I like your kids' names. They're unusual but easy to spell and recall. Truly, they never run out of meaning.

If I have a boy baby ever again, I would probably name it Mordachi Elijah, but I am not really sure, I don't think I will have any more children because of my age and health so I don't think I will have to worry about this at all. Anyway I like to give my children names that have good meanings,if at all possible. I think names are interesting.

Wow, you also like Biblical names. Those were some of the righteous people in the Old Testament.

I dun have a baby and dun plan to have any soon also.. But i do know how one of my fren came up with his baby son's name.. As chinese, we will have 3 characters in our names and also our surnames plays an important part too.. And my fren is actually quite smart to have the last character of his son's name, put it together with his name, to make it a word, HONOUR.. lol ^_^ BUt i wonder will the son mind, when he grows up.. lol

Hello kun2349. To answer your last line, of course, the child would eventually try to figure what his name means when he/she grows up or if the name had any meaning at all. It's like they are given an envelope that is supposed to be opened later on as soon as they learn how to read. And they grew excited about it but when they opened it, it has nothing written on the paper. If I I will have a kid, I would want that message in an envelope to be delightful to my child. Though, sometimes, people are giving names to their kids without any clue what it meant but later on, they discover that the name has a meaning that well fits after all.

I have always wanted to name my first baby Athena... because she is the Greek Goddess of wisdom (or the like)... but my husband wanted a name that is connected to music... so we chose Callia which means beautiful voice... so if my second baby is a girl... for sure she would be given the name Athena... but if the baby is a boy... then we would have to search a name with a great meaning...

Well, I like that name Callia that you mentioned. It sounds good. It's an inspiration to the child as she grows up and in turn, she will keep proving the point of acquiring that name by always striving to have a good voice.

Yup, it is the current trend to give kids as meaningless names as possible. I have heard some perfectly horrible names. I don't even know the correct meaning of my own name! I don't plan to have kids right now, if I do, I will make sure I will give them a nice, meaningful secular name. Cheers and happy mylotting

That part of the trend somehow saddens me. I guess life has to be meaningful, the words we say should be sensible, people names also deserve to be treated with more respect. But all I can do is wish because it's not happening all the time but I'm happy to know you may be one of the future parents who would bother to prepare a well thought name that your kid may love. Thanks for responding!

My kids all have names that just sound good, and none of them have any meaning. Although 2 of them have middle names that have meaning. One of my boys has his father's name as a middle name, it's a tradition in his family. My youngest son has my godfather's name as his middle name.

Thanks for responding. You're right. And although we can't be the direct source of the baby's name sometimes, we can at least suggest to them some names that we think may sound good at the same time, have pleasant meaning. If not, the best thing we can do is tell them where to check for good names, in case they need help.

Me too I'd like to name my child with a meaningful name, but today I have no plan yet to have a baby, anyway I want to name my first baby as Emannuel "GOD is with us". I'd like this name because it reminds us that GOD never abandon us, He is always with us.

That is a wonderful name. The child will feel he is really given an important thought by his parents. If she would be a girl, I suggest, if you want to keep that name, just add "le" at the end of it so you won't have to look for any other name.

i like religious and spiritual name, cos when calling those names, most especially those that goes with their future like joseph, emmanuel etc,you are prophesying into their life.

That's the way of some Biblically documented people who followed God. Some of them did not choose their own names but was chosen directly by God for them and they only followed it. Others' names were modified by God. From Abram He changed it to Abraham and Sarai to Sara. Of course, God is no nonsense, those names meant something really important.

Well even though I am done having children I would have named my next child had it been a girl, Olivia Rene.

It sounds like a traditional and a modern name meet up. Olivia is kind of classic and conservative while rene is the easy go lucky modern type. It also has a certain appeal. 'Sounds like an actress' name. The kid might thank you for it.
