well you're gonna have a hard time proving that the Simpsons live in Springfield ILLINOIS. its been a very long running "joke" that the Simpsons live in a town called Springfield, but never which state that town is located in. and since a majority states in the union have a town or city called Springfield, you cant pin down which state it is.
there is a site that claims they live in Springfield, Kentucky-because of a neighboring town called Shelbyville.
the state of Orgeon (where the creator grewup) is also thought to be, because of characters names that match street names there...but there are 30-some odd states that have a Springfield.
in actuality, the creator (Groening) chose the towns name as Springfield specifically because it was one of the most common names in the US.
so...there isnt anything specific (to my knowledge at least) the is 100% positively Springfield, ILLINOIS.
merely Springfield.

I know there isn't anything proving what Springfield they actually live in. The contest that I entered is done by a guy who lives in Springfield Illinois and he said in the movie there are at least 4 references to that town. So part of the contest is to know what the references are. In the movie they have a newspaper called the Springfield shopper and thats an actually newspaper in Illinois. So I need three more, or more then that. The more I have the better chance I have in winning. Its just hard cause I don't know much about The Simpsons and I don't live in Illinois. So anything you know would be great.

oh i see! lol..okay then. shoot i dont live in Illinois..but i have scrounged up a couple of things that MIGHT help.
apparently Springfield Illinois DOES have a nuclear power plant very close to it. Clinton, Illinois.
i THINK at the beginning of the movie there is an opening shot that appears to be flying in from the SouthWest from what could be the Great Lakes (Springfield is almost a direct line SouthWest from Lake Michigan)
thats all i can think of/find, hope that helps...GOOD LUCK!
