I love cats. I take care of a colony of feral cats. I know all the cats that I feed and I know if any are missing. Recently two of them have gone missing. A while back someone threatened to kill everyone in the colony. Due to this statement from this guy, when any of my cats goes missing, I think they are missing because of this guy who threatened the colony. He is a psycho. I know he would definitely kill the cats. :(
I feel angry because I love those cats so much and don't know what to do about getting to the truth of why they are missing. I feel helpless.
How can I protect my colony? How can I find out why they are missing or what happened to them. Where is the justice!

Report the man. I find that to be a form of animal abuse.
If a person can be accused of verbal abuse for threatening another person, then it should work the same for animals.
Other than that, you could set up alarms and cameras, but that may be to expensive.

Hi WindDragon, the man has been reported to the manager of the big box store where my colony is and where the crazy guy works. The threat happened in Feb. 2008. Since then, now, 5 cats are missing, 1 of the 5 was found passed away but not sure of cause. I have thought of cameras. They are pretty expensive. The big box store has cameras but I am not sure if they will cooperate and review the video or allow me to. The creep denied threatening the colony. The situation was reported to animal control and their response was, after talking to the manager at the big box store, that it was probably just something stupid the guy said and he would not act on it. Yea, right! It is against the law to harm or kill an animal but unless you catch someone in the act, how are you going to prove it? If the crazy guy makes a threat with no witnesses, who is anyone going to believe? The laws to protect animals are not strong enough. This is a catch-22 situation which makes me sick.

Update -- Still no sign of these two kitties. I feel in my heart they are gone. I cannot accuse someone without proof but it is coincidental that they both went missing within a week of each other and they both have been in the colony for at least two years. I am thinking of putting up "Missing" flyers and writing to the manager at the big box store and cc'ing the head of animal control but I feel they will be unsympathetic. It is so tragic that these little innocent creatures cannot live out their short lives in peace without being intruded upon by evil. I am so sad.

First of all, I applaud you for trying to take care of this colony of innocent and unwanted cats. I am just wondering if you have tried to rescue any of them? Some shelters will provide live traps. There is a program that will spay/nueter them, then release them back to the colony.Call your local animal shelter for details.
As far as the missing cats, they will return if they are able. In the meantime, keep an eye on "Psycho".
We have two cats in our home that were ferals. With patience and a lot of love, they became a part of our family, along with our other cats.

Hi TX, thank you for your post. Please also see my comments to WindDragon. Thank you also for your support on my taking care of the colony. I love them so much. It is no burden at all to take care of them and love them but when there is trouble like missing cats, I go crazy. My friend and I have trapped several cats from the colony and had them fixed. We are going to have all of them fixed. I have traps. Two of the cats we rescued were not feral and were placed in good homes. I have adopted ferals too who live with me but I cannot adopt any more right now. Right now, our local spay/neuter clinic is in the process of relocating and it will be a few weeks before we can resume TNR. I wish I did not have to return them to the colony. It is just a shame that it is so hard to find homes for all cats/kittens right now. The economy is not helping the situation. Again, thank you for your support.
